¹⁴ Then the five men who had spied out the land of Laish^(A) said to their fellow Danites, “Do you know that one of these houses has an ephod,^(B) some household gods and an image overlaid with silver?^(C) Now you know what to do.”

⁵ Now this man Micah had a shrine,^(A) and he made an ephod^(B) and some household gods^(C) and installed^(D) one of his sons as his priest.^(E)

³ When they were near Micah’s house, they recognized the voice of the young Levite;^(A) so they turned in there and asked him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? Why are you here?”

⁴ He told them what Micah had done for him, and said, “He has hired me and I am his priest.^(B)”

The Darkness Turns to Light

¹⁹ When someone tells you to consult^(A) mediums and spiritists,^(B) who whisper and mutter,^(C) should not a people inquire^(D) of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? ²⁰ Consult God’s instruction^(E) and the testimony of warning.^(F) If anyone does not speak according to this word, they have no light^(G) of dawn.

²⁸ Then one of the soldiers told him, “Your father bound the army under a strict oath, saying, ‘Cursed be anyone who eats food today!’ That is why the men are faint.”
