The Danites Settle in Laish

18 In those days Israel had no king.^(A)

And in those days the tribe of the Danites was seeking a place of their own where they might settle, because they had not yet come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.^(B)

⁶ In those days Israel had no king;^(A) everyone did as they saw fit.^(B)

A Levite and His Concubine

19 In those days Israel had no king.

Now a Levite who lived in a remote area in the hill country of Ephraim^(A) took a concubine from Bethlehem in Judah.^(B)

³⁴ The Amorites^(A) confined the Danites^(B) to the hill country, not allowing them to come down into the plain.^(C)

²⁵ In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.^(A)

Allotment for Dan

⁴⁰ The seventh lot came out for the tribe of Dan according to its clans. ⁴¹ The territory of their inheritance included:

⁴⁷ (When the territory of the Danites was lost to them,^(I) they went up and attacked Leshem^(J), took it, put it to the sword and occupied it. They settled in Leshem and named^(K) it Dan after their ancestor.)^(L)

⁴⁸ These towns and their villages were the inheritance of the tribe of Dan,^(M) according to its clans.
