18 In those days Israel had no king.(A)

And in those days the tribe of the Danites was seeking a place of their own where they might settle, because they had not yet come into an inheritance among the tribes of Israel.(B)

Allotment for Dan

40 The seventh lot came out for the tribe of Dan according to its clans. 41 The territory of their inheritance included:

Zorah, Eshtaol,(A) Ir Shemesh, 42 Shaalabbin, Aijalon,(B) Ithlah, 43 Elon, Timnah,(C) Ekron,(D) 44 Eltekeh, Gibbethon,(E) Baalath,(F) 45 Jehud, Bene Berak, Gath Rimmon,(G) 46 Me Jarkon and Rakkon, with the area facing Joppa.(H)

47 (When the territory of the Danites was lost to them,(I) they went up and attacked Leshem(J), took it, put it to the sword and occupied it. They settled in Leshem and named(K) it Dan after their ancestor.)(L)

48 These towns and their villages were the inheritance of the tribe of Dan,(M) according to its clans.
