¹² Then Micah installed^(A) the Levite, and the young man became his priest^(B) and lived in his house.

³⁰ There the Danites set up for themselves the idol, and Jonathan son of Gershom,^(A) the son of Moses,^[a] and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land.

³³ Even after this, Jeroboam did not change his evil ways,^(A) but once more appointed priests for the high places from all sorts^(B) of people. Anyone who wanted to become a priest he consecrated for the high places. ³⁴ This was the sin^(C) of the house of Jeroboam that led to its downfall and to its destruction^(D) from the face of the earth.

³¹ Jeroboam built shrines^(A) on high places and appointed priests^(B) from all sorts of people, even though they were not Levites.

⁸ Moses also said to Korah, “Now listen, you Levites! ⁹ Isn’t it enough^(A) for you that the God of Israel has separated you from the rest of the Israelite community and brought you near himself to do the work at the Lord’s tabernacle and to stand before the community and minister to them?^{(B) 10} He has brought you and all your fellow Levites near himself, but now you are trying to get the priesthood too.^(C)

⁵ Then he said to Korah and all his followers: “In the morning the Lord will show who belongs to him and who is holy,^(A) and he will have that person come near him.^(B) The man he chooses^(C) he will cause to come near him.
