²⁰ Then she called, “Samson, the Philistines are upon you!”^(A)

He awoke from his sleep and thought, “I’ll go out as before and shake myself free.” But he did not know that the Lord had left him.^(B)

⁴² Do not go up, because the Lord is not with you. You will be defeated by your enemies,^{(A) 43} for the Amalekites^(B) and the Canaanites^(C) will face you there. Because you have turned away from the Lord, he will not be with you^(D) and you will fall by the sword.”

David in Saul’s Service

¹⁴ Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed^(A) from Saul, and an evil^[a] spirit^(B) from the Lord tormented him.^(C)

¹² Saul was afraid^(A) of David, because the Lord^(B) was with^(C) David but had departed from^(D) Saul.

¹² That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies;^(A) they turn their backs^(B) and run^(C) because they have been made liable to destruction.^(D) I will not be with you anymore^(E) unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.

Sin, Confession and Redemption

² He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you^(A) when you are with him.^(B) If you seek^(C) him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.^(D)
