³ His father and mother replied, “Isn’t there an acceptable woman among your relatives or among all our people?^(A) Must you go to the uncircumcised^(B) Philistines to get a wife?^(C)”

But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me. She’s the right one for me.”

³⁶ Your servant has killed both the lion^(A) and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.

¹⁸ Because he was very thirsty, he cried out to the Lord,^(A) “You have given your servant this great victory.^(B) Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”

⁴ Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through,^(A) or these uncircumcised^(B) fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.”

But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it; so Saul took his own sword and fell on it.

²⁶ David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace^(A) from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised^(B) Philistine that he should defy^(C) the armies of the living^(D) God?”

⁶ Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised^(A) men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing^(B) can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many^(C) or by few.^(D)”

² and when the Lord your God has delivered^(A) them over to you and you have defeated them, then you must destroy^(B) them totally.^[a](C) Make no treaty^(D) with them, and show them no mercy.^{(E) 3} Do not intermarry with them.^(F) Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,

¹² Be careful not to make a treaty^(A) with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare^(B) among you. ¹³ Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles.^{[a](C) 14} Do not worship any other god,^(D) for the Lord, whose name^(E) is Jealous, is a jealous God.^(F)

¹⁵ “Be careful not to make a treaty^(G) with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute^(H) themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices.^{(I) 16} And when you choose some of their daughters as wives^(J) for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods,^(K) they will lead your sons to do the same.
