³ And the ^(A)Angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “Indeed now, you are barren and have borne no children, but you shall conceive and bear a son.

¹³ But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and ^(A)you shall call his name John.

¹¹ Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of ^(A)the altar of incense.

⁸ Then Manoah prayed to the Lord, and said, “O my Lord, please let the Man of God whom You sent come to us again and teach us what we shall do for the child who will be born.”

Gideon

¹¹ Now the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash ^(A)the Abiezrite, while his son ^(B)Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. ¹² And the ^(C)Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is ^(D)with you, you mighty man of valor!”

Israel’s Disobedience

2 Then the Angel of the Lord came up from Gilgal to Bochim, and said: ^(A)“I led you up from Egypt and ^(B)brought you to the land of which I swore to your fathers; and ^(C)I said, ‘I will never break My covenant with you.

²⁸ And having come in, the angel said to her, ^(A)“Rejoice, highly favored one, ^(B)the Lord is with you; ^[a]blessed are you among women!”

²⁹ But ^[b]when she saw him, ^(C)she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. ³⁰ Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found ^(D)favor with God. ^31 (E)And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and ^(F)shall call His name Jesus. ³² He will be great, ^(G)and will be called the Son of the Highest; and ^(H)the Lord God will give Him the ^(I)throne of His ^(J)father David. ^33 (K)And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

³⁴ Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I ^[c]do not know a man?”

³⁵ And the angel answered and said to her, ^(L)“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called ^(M)the Son of God. ³⁶ Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. ³⁷ For ^(N)with God nothing will be impossible.”

³⁸ Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

¹⁶ Then he said, ^[a]“About this time next year you shall embrace a son.”

And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, ^(A)do not lie to your maidservant!”

¹⁰ And He said, “I will certainly return to you ^(A)according to the time of life, and behold, ^(B)Sarah your wife shall have a son.”

(Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.)
