²⁸ But ^(A)where are your gods
    that you made for yourself?
Let them arise, ^(B)if they can save you,
    in your time of trouble;
for ^(C)as many as your cities
    are your gods, O Judah.

³⁷ Then he will say, ^(A)‘Where are their gods,
    ^(B)the rock in which they took refuge,
³⁸ who ate the fat of their sacrifices
    and drank the wine of their drink offering?
Let them rise up and help you;
    let them be your protection!

³ What will you do on ^(A)the day of punishment,
    in the ruin that will come ^(B)from afar?
To whom will you flee for help,
    and where will you leave your wealth?

²⁵ because you have ^(A)ignored all my counsel
    and ^(B)would have none of my reproof,
²⁶ I also ^(C)will laugh at your calamity;
    I will mock when ^(D)terror strikes you,
²⁷ when terror strikes you like ^(E)a storm
    and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
    when distress and anguish come upon you.

^26 (A)I would have said, “I will cut them to pieces;
    ^(B)I will wipe them from human memory,”
²⁷ had I not feared provocation by the enemy,
    lest their adversaries should misunderstand,
lest they should say, ^(C)“Our hand is triumphant,
    it was not the Lord who did all this.”’
