⁷ Then Adoni-Bezek said, “Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off have picked up scraps under my table. Now God has paid me back^(A) for what I did to them.” They brought him to Jerusalem,^(B) and he died there.

³³ But Samuel said,

And Samuel put Agag to death before the Lord at Gilgal.

This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness^(B) on the part of God’s people.^(C)

¹³ because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful.^(A) Mercy triumphs over judgment.

Judging Others^(A)

³⁷ “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.^(B) Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.^{(C) 38} Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.^(D) For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”^(E)

Judging Others^(A)

7 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.^{(B) 2} For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.^(C)

¹⁹ Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner: ²⁰ fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth.^(A) The one who has inflicted the injury must suffer the same injury. ²¹ Whoever kills an animal must make restitution,^(B) but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death.^(C)

¹⁵ They show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts sometimes accusing them and at other times even defending them.)

²³ But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life,^{(A) 24} eye for eye, tooth for tooth,^(B) hand for hand, foot for foot, ²⁵ burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
