²³ The house of Joseph sent out spies to Bethel (the name of the city was formerly Luz).^(A)

¹⁹ He called that place Bethel,^[a] but the name of the city was Luz at the first.^(A)

³ And Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty^[a] appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and he blessed me^(A)

⁶ Jacob came to Luz, that is, Bethel, which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him,^(A)

² So the Danites sent five valiant men from the whole number of their clan, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to explore it, and they said to them, “Go, explore the land.” When they came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they stayed there.^(A)

² Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is near Beth-aven, east of Bethel, and said to them, “Go up and spy out the land.” And the men went up and spied out Ai.

2 Then Joshua son of Nun sent two men secretly from Shittim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” So they went and entered the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and spent the night there.^(A)
