16 These are (A)grumblers, finding fault, (B)following after their own lusts; [a]they speak (C)arrogantly, flattering people (D)for the sake of gaining an advantage.
Keep Yourselves in the Love of God
17 But you, (E)beloved, (F)ought to remember the words that were spoken beforehand by (G)the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ, 18 that they were saying to you, “(H)In the last time there will be mockers, (I)following after their own ungodly lusts.” 19 These are the ones who cause divisions, [b](J)worldly-minded, [c]devoid of the Spirit.

A Call to Persevere
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles(D) of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.(E) 18 They said to you, “In the last times(F) there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”(G) 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.(H)
