Judgment on False Teachers

Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our (A)common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you (B)to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints. For (C)certain people (D)have crept in unnoticed (E)who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people, who pervert (F)the grace of our God into sensuality and (G)deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Now I want (H)to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that (I)Jesus, who saved[a] a people out of the land of Egypt, (J)afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And (K)the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day— just as (L)Sodom and Gomorrah and (M)the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and (N)pursued unnatural desire,[b] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

The Sin and Doom of Ungodly People

Dear friends,(A) although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share,(B) I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend(C) for the faith(D) that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.(E) For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about[a] long ago have secretly slipped in among you.(F) They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.(G)

Though you already know all this,(H) I want to remind you(I) that the Lord[b] at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.(J) And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.(K) In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah(L) and the surrounding towns(M) gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.(N)
