Hälsning

1 Från Judas, tjänare till Jesus Kristus och bror till Jakob.

Till de kallade som är älskade av Gud, Fadern, och bevarade i Jesus Kristus.

2 Allt rikare barmhärtighet, frid och kärlek åt er.

Gud ska straffa dem som sprider falska läror

3 Mina älskade, jag har varit mycket ivrig att skriva till er om vår gemensamma räddning, men nu känner jag att mitt brev i stället måste bli en uppmaning till er att kämpa för den tro som en gång för alla har getts åt de heliga. 4 Några människor har nämligen trängt sig in bland er, sådana som det redan för länge sedan skrivits om att de ska komma under domen. De är ogudaktiga och förvränger vår Guds nåd till ett omoraliskt liv och förnekar vår enda härskare och Herre, Jesus Kristus.[a]

5 Även om ni redan vet allt detta, vill jag ändå påminna er om att Herren[b] räddade sitt folk ur Egypten men sedan dödade dem som inte trodde.[c] 6 Och de änglar som inte bevarade sin höga ställning utan övergav sitt rätta hem, dem håller han fängslade med eviga bojor i mörker fram till domen på den stora dagen.[d] 7 Så var det också med Sodom och Gomorra och städerna däromkring. De levde på samma sätt i sexuell omoral och ägnade sig åt perversion. De är varnande exempel och straffas i evig eld.[e]

8 Men på samma sätt förnedrar dessa drömmare sina egna kroppar, förkastar auktoriteter[f] och hånar himmelska väsen,[g] 9 trots att inte ens ärkeängeln Mikael vågade anklaga djävulen eller håna honom när han kämpade med honom om Moses kropp. Han sa bara: ”Herren ska straffa dig.”[h] 10 Men dessa hånar sådant som de inte känner till. Vad de instinktivt fattar, likt oförståndiga djur, det förstör de sig själva med.

11 Ve dem! De följer Kains exempel.[i] Och liksom Bileam tjänar de pengar på villfarelse.[j] Men de ska gå under precis som Korach i sitt uppror.[k]

12 Dessa är skamfläckar vid era kärleksmåltider. De tillfredsställer bara sig själva och tar skamlöst för sig. De är moln utan regn och drivs undan av vinden.[l] De är döda träd som inte bär frukt när hösten kommer, uppryckta med rötterna, dubbelt döda. 13 De är havets vilda vågor som kastar upp sin skamliga smuts.[m] De är stjärnor som har kommit ur sin bana och för vilka ett evigt och kompakt mörker är reserverat.

14 Henok, som levde i den sjunde generationen efter Adam, profeterade om dessa: ”Se, Herren kommer tillsammans med sina tusentals heliga, 15 för att döma alla människor och överbevisa var och en om alla ogudaktiga handlingar de har begått i deras ogudaktighet och om alla dristiga ord som ogudaktiga syndare har talat mot honom.”[n] 16 Dessa gnäller och klagar och följer sina begär. De skryter vitt och brett om sig själva och smickrar samtidigt de människor som de själva kan ha nytta av.

Håll fast vid er tro på Jesus

17 Men ni, mina kära, kom ihåg vad vår Herre Jesus Kristus apostlar förutsade. 18 De sa till er: ”I den sista tiden ska det komma hädare som drivs av sina gudlösa begär.” 19 Dessa orsakar splittring. De drivs av sina naturliga instinkter; de har inte Anden.

20 Men ni, mina kära, ska uppbygga varandra i er allra heligaste tro och be i den heliga Anden. 21 Håll fast vid Guds kärlek, medan ni ser fram emot att vår Herre Jesus Kristus i sin barmhärtighet ska ge er evigt liv.

22 Visa medlidande mot dem som tvivlar, 23 rädda dem, ryck dem ur elden. Men mot andra ska ni visa medlidande med fruktan, så att ni till och med hatar deras förorenade skjortor.

Avslutande hyllning till Gud

24 Han som kan bevara er från fall och ställa er inför sin härlighet, fläckfria och jublande, 25 han, som ensam är Gud och räddade oss genom vår Herre Jesus Kristus, honom tillhör härlighet och majestät, styrka och makt, före all tids början, nu och i all evighet. Amen.

1 (A) Från Judas, Jesu Kristi tjänare och Jakobs bror. Till dem som är kallade och älskade i Gud Fadern och bevarade i Jesus Kristus[a]. 2 (B) Barmhärtighet, frid och kärlek vare med er i allt rikare mått.

Maning till kamp för tron

3 (C) Mina älskade, trots[b] min stora iver att skriva till er om vår gemensamma frälsning fann jag det nödvändigt att skriva och mana er fortsätta kämpa för den tro som en gång för alla har överlämnats åt de heliga. 4 (D) Hos er har det nämligen nästlat sig in vissa personer vars dom för länge sedan är förutsagd i Skriften. De är gudlösa, de förvränger vår Guds nåd till försvar för omoral och förnekar vår ende Härskare och Herre, Jesus Kristus.

Varning för falska lärare

5 (E) Även om ni redan känner till allt, vill jag påminna er om hur Herren[c] först frälste sitt folk ur Egypten och sedan dödade dem som inte trodde. 6 (F) Och de änglar som inte höll fast vid sin höga ställning utan övergav sin rätta hemvist, dem håller han i förvar i mörker med eviga bojor till den stora dagens dom. 7 (G) Så är det också med Sodom och Gomorra och städerna däromkring, som på samma sätt kastade sig ut i sexuell omoral och följde onaturliga begär. De står som ett varnande exempel och får sitt straff i evig eld.

8 (H) Ändå skändar dessa drömmare på samma sätt sin kropp. De föraktar Herren[d] och hånar höga makter. 9 (I) Men när ärkeängeln Mikael tvistade med djävulen om Moses kropp, vågade han inte uttala någon hånfull dom över honom utan sade: "Må Herren straffa dig." 10 (J) Dessa däremot hånar vad de inte känner till, och vad de likt oförnuftiga djur förstår av naturen, det fördärvar de sig själva med.

11 (K) Ve dem! De har gått in på Kains väg,[e] de har kastat sig ut i Bileams villfarelse[f] mot betalning, de har gjort uppror som Kora[g] och gått under. 12 (L) De är skamfläckar[h] vid era kärleksmåltider där de utan att skämmas festar tillsammans med er och tar för sig[i]. De är moln utan regn[j] som drivs bort av vindarna, de är träd utan frukt när hösten är inne, dubbelt döda och uppryckta med rötterna. 13 (M) De är vilda havsvågor som skummar med sina skändligheter, de är irrande stjärnor som har det svarta mörkret att vänta för evigt.

14 (N) Henok,[k] i det sjunde släktledet efter Adam, profeterade om dem: "Se, Herren kommer med sina tusentals heliga 15 (O) för att hålla dom över alla och ställa varje själ till svars för alla de gudlösa gärningar de gjort och för alla de hårda ord som gudlösa syndare har talat mot honom." 16 (P) De klagar missnöjt över sitt öde och följer sina begär, de är stora i orden och smickrar dem som de har nytta av.

I väntan på Kristi ankomst

17 (Q) Men ni, mina älskade, ska komma ihåg vad som är förutsagt av vår Herre Jesu Kristi apostlar. 18 (R) De sade till er: "I den sista tiden kommer hånfulla människor som drivs av sina gudlösa begär."[l] 19 (S) Det är sådana som skapar splittring, oandliga människor som inte har Anden.

20 (T) Men ni, mina älskade, ska bygga upp er själva[m] på[n] er allra heligaste tro och be i den helige Ande. 21 (U) Håll er kvar i Guds kärlek, medan ni väntar på att vår Herre Jesus Kristus i sin barmhärtighet ska ge er evigt liv. 22 Mot dem som tvivlar ska ni vara barmhärtiga, 23 (V) andra ska ni rädda genom att rycka dem ur elden. Och andra ska ni vara barmhärtiga mot, fast med fruktan så att ni avskyr till och med deras kläder som är nersmutsade av köttet.

Lovprisning

24 (W) Han som har makt att bevara er från fall och föra fram er fläckfria och jublande inför sin härlighet – 25 (X) den ende Guden, vår Frälsare genom Jesus Kristus, vår Herre – honom tillhör ära, majestät, välde och makt före all tid, nu och i all evighet. Amen.

2 Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

Contend for the Faith

Apostates Depraved and Doomed

They are clouds without water, carried [h]about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; 13 (P)raging waves of the sea, (Q)foaming up their own shame; wandering stars (R)for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.

14 Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints, 15 to execute judgment on all, to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the (S)harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

Apostates Predicted

16 These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they (T)mouth great swelling words, (U)flattering people to gain advantage. 17 (V)But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: 18 how they told you that (W)there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. 19 These are [i]sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

Maintain Your Life with God

20 But you, beloved, (X)building yourselves up on your most holy faith, (Y)praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, (Z)looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

22 And on some have compassion, [j]making a distinction; 23 but (AA)others save [k]with fear, (AB)pulling them out of the [l]fire, hating even (AC)the garment defiled by the flesh.

Glory to God

24 (AD)Now to Him who is able to keep [m]you from stumbling,
And (AE)to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,

To those who have been called,(C) who are loved in God the Father and kept for[a] Jesus Christ:(D)

2 Mercy, peace(E) and love be yours in abundance.(F)

The Sin and Doom of Ungodly People

3 Dear friends,(G) although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share,(H) I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend(I) for the faith(J) that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.(K) 4 For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about[b] long ago have secretly slipped in among you.(L) They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.(M)

5 Though you already know all this,(N) I want to remind you(O) that the Lord[c] at one time delivered his people out of Egypt, but later destroyed those who did not believe.(P) 6 And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.(Q) 7 In a similar way, Sodom and Gomorrah(R) and the surrounding towns(S) gave themselves up to sexual immorality and perversion. They serve as an example of those who suffer the punishment of eternal fire.(T)

8 In the very same way, on the strength of their dreams these ungodly people pollute their own bodies, reject authority and heap abuse on celestial beings.(U) 9 But even the archangel(V) Michael,(W) when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses,(X) did not himself dare to condemn him for slander but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”[d](Y) 10 Yet these people slander whatever they do not understand, and the very things they do understand by instinct—as irrational animals do—will destroy them.(Z)

11 Woe to them! They have taken the way of Cain;(AA) they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error;(AB) they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.(AC)

12 These people are blemishes at your love feasts,(AD) eating with you without the slightest qualm—shepherds who feed only themselves.(AE) They are clouds without rain,(AF) blown along by the wind;(AG) autumn trees, without fruit and uprooted(AH)—twice dead. 13 They are wild waves of the sea,(AI) foaming up their shame;(AJ) wandering stars, for whom blackest darkness has been reserved forever.(AK)

14 Enoch,(AL) the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming(AM) with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones(AN) 15 to judge(AO) everyone, and to convict all of them of all the ungodly acts they have committed in their ungodliness, and of all the defiant words ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”[e](AP) 16 These people are grumblers(AQ) and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires;(AR) they boast(AS) about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.

A Call to Persevere

17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles(AT) of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold.(AU) 18 They said to you, “In the last times(AV) there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”(AW) 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit.(AX)

20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up(AY) in your most holy faith(AZ) and praying in the Holy Spirit,(BA) 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait(BB) for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.(BC)

22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire;(BD) to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.[f](BE)

Doxology

24 To him who is able(BF) to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence(BG) without fault(BH) and with great joy— 25 to the only God(BI) our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!(BJ) Amen.(BK)
