Jesús alimenta a cinco mil
6 Después de esto fue Jesús a la otra orilla del mar de Galilea, o sea de Tiberias, 2 y lo seguía una gran multitud porque veían las señales que hacía en los enfermos. 3 Jesús subió a un monte y se sentó allí con sus discípulos. 4 Estaba cerca la Pascua, la fiesta de los judíos.
5 Cuando Jesús alzó los ojos y vio que se le acercaba una gran multitud, le dijo a Felipe:
—¿De dónde compraremos pan para que coman estos?
6 Pero decía esto para probarle, porque Jesús sabía lo que iba a hacer. 7 Felipe le respondió:
—Ni con el pan comprado con el salario de más de seis meses bastaría para que cada uno de ellos reciba un poco.
8 Uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, el hermano de Simón Pedro, le dijo:
9 —Aquí hay un muchacho que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pescaditos. Pero, ¿qué es esto para tantos?
10 Entonces Jesús dijo:
—Hagan recostar a la gente.
Había mucha hierba en aquel lugar. Se recostaron, pues, como cinco mil hombres. 11 Entonces Jesús tomó los panes y, habiendo dado gracias, los repartió entre los que estaban recostados. De igual manera repartió de los pescados, cuanto querían. 12 Cuando fueron saciados, dijo a sus discípulos:
—Recojan los pedazos que han quedado para que no se pierda nada.
13 Recogieron, pues, y llenaron doce canastas de pedazos de los cinco panes de cebada que sobraron a los que habían comido. 14 Entonces, cuando los hombres vieron la señal que Jesús había hecho, decían:
—¡Verdaderamente este es el profeta[a] que ha de venir al mundo!
15 Como Jesús entendió que iban a venir para tomarlo por la fuerza y hacerlo rey, se retiró de nuevo al monte, él solo.
Jesús camina sobre el agua
16 Cuando anochecía, sus discípulos descendieron al mar 17 y, entrando en una barca iban cruzando el mar hacia Capernaúm. Ya había oscurecido, y Jesús todavía no había venido a ellos. 18 Y se agitaba el mar porque soplaba un gran viento. 19 Entonces, cuando habían remado como cinco o seis kilómetros, vieron a Jesús caminando sobre el mar y acercándose a la barca, y tuvieron miedo. 20 Pero él les dijo:
—¡Yo soy! ¡No teman!
21 Entonces ellos quisieron recibirlo en la barca y, de inmediato, la barca llegó a la tierra a donde iban.
Jesús: el pan de vida
22 Al día siguiente, la multitud que había estado al otro lado del mar se dio cuenta de que no había habido allí sino una sola barca, y que Jesús no había entrado en la barca con sus discípulos sino que estos se habían ido solos. 23 (Sin embargo, de Tiberias habían llegado otras barcas cerca del lugar donde habían comido el pan después que el Señor había dado gracias). 24 Entonces, cuando la multitud vio que Jesús no estaba allí ni tampoco sus discípulos, ellos entraron en las barcas y fueron a Capernaúm buscando a Jesús. 25 Cuando lo hallaron al otro lado del mar, le preguntaron:
—Rabí, ¿cuándo llegaste acá?
26 Jesús les respondió diciendo:
—De cierto, de cierto les digo que me buscan, no porque han visto las señales sino porque comieron de los panes y se saciaron. 27 Trabajen, no por la comida que perece sino por la comida que permanece para vida eterna que el Hijo del Hombre les dará; porque en este, Dios el Padre ha puesto su sello.
28 Entonces le dijeron:
—¿Qué haremos para realizar las obras de Dios?
29 Respondió Jesús y les dijo:
—Esta es la obra de Dios: que crean en aquel que él ha enviado.
30 Entonces le dijeron:
—¿Qué señal, pues, haces tú para que veamos y creamos en ti? ¿Qué obra haces? 31 Nuestros padres comieron el maná en el desierto, como está escrito: Pan del cielo les dio a comer[b].
32 Por tanto Jesús les dijo:
—De cierto, de cierto les digo que no les ha dado Moisés el pan del cielo sino mi Padre les da el verdadero pan del cielo. 33 Porque el pan de Dios es aquel que desciende del cielo y da vida al mundo.
34 Le dijeron:
—Señor, danos siempre este pan.
35 Jesús les dijo:
—Yo soy el pan de vida. El que a mí viene nunca tendrá hambre, y el que en mí cree no tendrá sed jamás. 36 Pero les he dicho que me han visto, y no creen. 37 Todo lo que el Padre me da vendrá a mí; y al que a mí viene jamás lo echaré fuera. 38 Porque yo he descendido del cielo no para hacer la voluntad mía sino la voluntad del que me envió. 39 Y esta es la voluntad del que me envió: que yo no pierda nada de todo lo que me ha dado, sino que lo resucite en el día final. 40 Esta es la voluntad de mi Padre: que todo aquel que mira al Hijo y cree en él tenga vida eterna, y que yo lo resucite en el día final.
41 Entonces los judíos murmuraban de él porque había dicho: “Yo soy el pan que descendió del cielo”. 42 Y decían:
—¿No es este Jesús, el hijo de José? ¿No conocemos a su padre y a su madre? ¿Cómo es que ahora dice: “He descendido del cielo”?
43 Jesús respondió y les dijo:
—No murmuren más entre ustedes. 44 Nadie puede venir a mí a menos que el Padre que me envió lo traiga; y yo lo resucitaré en el día final. 45 Está escrito en los Profetas: Y serán todos enseñados por Dios[c]. Así que todo aquel que oye y aprende del Padre viene a mí. 46 No es que alguien haya visto al Padre, sino que aquel que proviene de Dios, este ha visto al Padre. 47 De cierto, de cierto les digo: El que cree[d] tiene vida eterna. 48 Yo soy el pan de vida. 49 Sus padres comieron el maná en el desierto y murieron. 50 Este es el pan que desciende del cielo para que el que coma de él no muera. 51 Yo soy el pan vivo que descendió del cielo; si alguno come de este pan vivirá para siempre. El pan que yo daré por la vida del mundo es mi carne.
52 Entonces los judíos contendían entre sí, diciendo:
—¿Cómo puede este darnos a comer su carne?
53 Y Jesús les dijo:
—De cierto, de cierto les digo que si no comen la carne del Hijo del Hombre y beben su sangre, no tienen vida en ustedes. 54 El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre tiene vida eterna, y yo lo resucitaré en el día final. 55 Porque mi carne es verdadera comida, y mi sangre es verdadera bebida. 56 El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre permanece en mí, y yo en él. 57 Así como me envió el Padre viviente, y yo vivo por el Padre, de la misma manera el que me come también vivirá por mí. 58 Este es el pan que descendió del cielo. No como los padres que comieron y murieron; el que come de este pan vivirá para siempre.
59 Estas cosas dijo en la sinagoga cuando enseñaba en Capernaúm.
Palabras de vida eterna
60 Entonces, al oírlo, muchos de sus discípulos dijeron:
—Dura es esta palabra; ¿quién la puede oír?
61 Sabiendo Jesús en sí mismo que sus discípulos murmuraban de esto, les dijo:
—¿Esto los escandaliza? 62 ¿Y si vieran al Hijo del Hombre subir a donde estaba primero? 63 El Espíritu es el que da vida; la carne no aprovecha para nada. Las palabras que yo les he hablado son espíritu y son vida. 64 Pero hay entre ustedes algunos que no creen.
Pues desde el principio Jesús sabía quiénes eran los que no creían y quién le había de entregar, 65 y decía:
—Por esta razón les he dicho que nadie puede venir a mí a menos que le haya sido concedido por el Padre.
66 Desde entonces, muchos de sus discípulos volvieron atrás y ya no andaban con él. 67 Entonces Jesús les dijo a los doce:
—¿Quieren acaso irse ustedes también?
68 Le respondió Simón Pedro:
—Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes palabras de vida eterna. 69 Y nosotros hemos creído y conocido que tú eres el Santo de Dios[e].
70 Jesús les respondió:
—¿No los escogí yo a ustedes doce y uno de ustedes es diablo?
71 Hablaba de Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote, porque este, siendo uno de los doce, estaba por entregarlo.

Jesús da de comer a una multitud(A)
6 Después de esto, Jesús se fue al otro lado del Lago de Galilea, que es el mismo Lago de Tiberias. 2 Mucha gente lo seguía, porque habían visto las señales milagrosas que hacía sanando a los enfermos. 3 Entonces Jesús subió a un monte, y se sentó con sus discípulos. 4 Ya estaba cerca la Pascua, la fiesta de los judíos. 5 Cuando Jesús miró y vio la mucha gente que lo seguía, le dijo a Felipe:
—¿Dónde vamos a comprar pan para toda esta gente?
6 Pero lo dijo por ver qué contestaría Felipe, porque Jesús mismo sabía bien lo que había de hacer. 7 Felipe le respondió:
—Ni siquiera el salario de doscientos días bastaría para comprar el pan suficiente para que cada uno recibiera un poco.
8 Entonces Andrés, que era otro de sus discípulos y hermano de Simón Pedro, le dijo:
9 —Aquí hay un niño que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos pescados; pero, ¿qué es esto para tanta gente?
10 Jesús respondió:
—Díganles a todos que se sienten.
Había mucha hierba en aquel lugar, y se sentaron. Eran unos cinco mil hombres. 11 Jesús tomó en sus manos los panes y, después de dar gracias a Dios, los repartió entre los que estaban sentados. Hizo lo mismo con los pescados, dándoles todo lo que querían. 12 Cuando ya estuvieron satisfechos, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos:
—Recojan los pedazos sobrantes, para que no se desperdicie nada.
13 Ellos los recogieron, y llenaron doce canastas con los pedazos que sobraron de los cinco panes de cebada. 14 La gente, al ver esta señal milagrosa hecha por Jesús, decía:
—De veras éste es el profeta que había de venir al mundo.
15 Pero como Jesús se dio cuenta de que querían llevárselo a la fuerza para hacerlo rey, se retiró otra vez a lo alto del cerro, para estar solo.
Jesús camina sobre el agua(B)
16 Al llegar la noche, los discípulos de Jesús bajaron al lago, 17 subieron a una barca y comenzaron a cruzar el lago para llegar a Cafarnaúm. Ya estaba completamente oscuro, y Jesús no había regresado todavía. 18 En esto, el lago se alborotó a causa de un fuerte viento que se había levantado. 19 Cuando ya habían avanzado unos cinco o seis kilómetros, vieron a Jesús, que se acercaba a la barca caminando sobre el agua, y tuvieron miedo. 20 Él les dijo:
—¡Soy yo, no tengan miedo!
21 Con gusto lo recibieron en la barca, y en un momento llegaron a la tierra adonde iban.
La gente busca a Jesús
22 Al día siguiente, la gente que estaba al otro lado del lago se dio cuenta de que los discípulos se habían ido en la única barca que allí había, y que Jesús no iba con ellos. 23 Mientras tanto, otras barcas llegaron de la ciudad de Tiberias a un lugar cerca de donde habían comido el pan después que el Señor dio gracias. 24 Así que, al ver que ni Jesús ni sus discípulos estaban allí, la gente subió también a las barcas y se dirigió a Cafarnaúm, a buscarlo.
Jesús, el pan de la vida
25 Al llegar ellos al otro lado del lago, encontraron a Jesús y le preguntaron:
—Maestro, ¿cuándo viniste acá?
26 Jesús les dijo:
—Les aseguro que ustedes me buscan porque comieron hasta llenarse, y no porque hayan entendido las señales milagrosas. 27 No trabajen por la comida que se acaba, sino por la comida que permanece y que les da vida eterna. Ésta es la comida que les dará el Hijo del hombre, porque Dios, el Padre, ha puesto su sello en él.
28 Le preguntaron:
—¿Qué debemos hacer para realizar las obras que Dios quiere que hagamos?
29 Jesús les contestó:
—La única obra que Dios quiere es que crean en aquel que él ha enviado.
30 Le preguntaron entonces:
—¿Qué señal puedes darnos, para que al verla te creamos? ¿Cuáles son tus obras? 31 Nuestros antepasados comieron el maná en el desierto, como dice la Escritura: “Les dio a comer pan del cielo.”
32 Jesús les contestó:
—Les aseguro que no fue Moisés quien les dio a ustedes el pan del cielo, sino que mi Padre es quien les da el verdadero pan del cielo. 33 Porque el pan que Dios da es el que ha bajado del cielo y da vida al mundo.
34 Ellos le pidieron:
—Señor, danos siempre ese pan.
35 Y Jesús les dijo:
—Yo soy el pan que da vida. El que viene a mí, nunca tendrá hambre; y el que cree en mí, nunca tendrá sed. 36 Pero como ya les dije, ustedes no creen aunque me han visto. 37 Todos los que el Padre me da, vienen a mí; y a los que vienen a mí, no los echaré fuera. 38 Porque yo no he bajado del cielo para hacer mi propia voluntad, sino para hacer la voluntad de mi Padre, que me ha enviado. 39 Y la voluntad del que me ha enviado es que yo no pierda a ninguno de los que me ha dado, sino que los resucite en el día último. 40 Porque la voluntad de mi Padre es que todos los que miran al Hijo de Dios y creen en él, tengan vida eterna; y yo los resucitaré en el día último.
41 Por esto los judíos comenzaron a murmurar de Jesús, porque afirmó: «Yo soy el pan que ha bajado del cielo.» 42 Y dijeron:
—¿No es este Jesús, el hijo de José? Nosotros conocemos a su padre y a su madre. ¿Cómo dice ahora que ha bajado del cielo?
43 Jesús les dijo entonces:
—Dejen de murmurar. 44 Nadie puede venir a mí, si no lo trae el Padre, que me ha enviado; y yo lo resucitaré en el día último. 45 En los libros de los profetas se dice: “Dios instruirá a todos.” Así que todos los que escuchan al Padre y aprenden de él, vienen a mí.
46 «No es que alguno haya visto al Padre; el único que lo ha visto es el que procede de Dios. 47 Les aseguro que quien cree, tiene vida eterna. 48 Yo soy el pan que da vida. 49 Los antepasados de ustedes comieron el maná en el desierto, y a pesar de ello murieron; 50 pero yo hablo del pan que baja del cielo; quien come de él, no muere. 51 Yo soy ese pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo; el que come de este pan, vivirá para siempre. El pan que yo daré es mi propia carne. Lo daré por la vida del mundo.»
52 Los judíos se pusieron a discutir unos con otros:
—¿Cómo puede éste darnos a comer su propia carne?
53 Jesús les dijo:
—Les aseguro que si ustedes no comen la carne del Hijo del hombre y beben su sangre, no tendrán vida. 54 El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, tiene vida eterna; y yo lo resucitaré en el día último. 55 Porque mi carne es verdadera comida, y mi sangre es verdadera bebida. 56 El que come mi carne y bebe mi sangre, vive unido a mí, y yo vivo unido a él. 57 El Padre, que me ha enviado, tiene vida, y yo vivo por él; de la misma manera, el que se alimenta de mí, vivirá por mí. 58 Hablo del pan que ha bajado del cielo. Este pan no es como el maná que comieron los antepasados de ustedes, que a pesar de haberlo comido murieron; el que come de este pan, vivirá para siempre.
59 Jesús enseñó estas cosas en la sinagoga en Cafarnaúm.
Palabras de vida eterna
60 Al oír estas enseñanzas, muchos de los que seguían a Jesús dijeron:
—Esto que dice es muy difícil de aceptar; ¿quién puede hacerle caso?
61 Jesús, dándose cuenta de lo que estaban murmurando, les preguntó:
—¿Esto les ofende? 62 ¿Qué pasaría entonces, si vieran al Hijo del hombre subir a donde antes estaba? 63 El espíritu es el que da vida; lo carnal no sirve para nada. Y las cosas que yo les he dicho son espíritu y vida. 64 Pero todavía hay algunos de ustedes que no creen.
Es que Jesús sabía desde el principio quiénes eran los que no creían, y quién era el que lo iba a traicionar. 65 Y añadió:
—Por esto les he dicho que nadie puede venir a mí, si el Padre no se lo concede.
66 Desde entonces, muchos de los que habían seguido a Jesús lo dejaron, y ya no andaban con él. 67 Jesús les preguntó a los doce discípulos:
—¿También ustedes quieren irse?
68 Simón Pedro le contestó:
—Señor, ¿a quién podemos ir? Tus palabras son palabras de vida eterna. 69 Nosotros ya hemos creído, y sabemos que tú eres el Santo de Dios.
70 Jesús les contestó:
—¿No los he escogido yo a ustedes doce? Sin embargo, uno de ustedes es un diablo.
71 Al decir esto, Jesús hablaba de Judas, hijo de Simón Iscariote, porque Judas iba a traicionarlo, aunque era uno de los doce discípulos.

6 这事以后，耶稣渡过加利利海，就是提比哩亚海。 2 有许多人因为看见他在病人身上所行的神迹，就跟随他。 3 耶稣上了山，和门徒一同坐在那里。 4 那时犹太人的逾越节近了。 5 耶稣举目看见许多人来，就对腓力说：“我们从哪里买饼叫这些人吃呢？” 6 他说这话是要试验腓力，他自己原知道要怎样行。 7 腓力回答说：“就是二十两银子的饼，叫他们各人吃一点也是不够的。” 8 有一个门徒，就是西门彼得的兄弟安得烈，对耶稣说： 9 “在这里有一个孩童，带着五个大麦饼、两条鱼，只是分给这许多人还算什么呢？” 10 耶稣说：“你们叫众人坐下。”原来那地方的草多。众人就坐下，数目约有五千。 11 耶稣拿起饼来，祝谢了，就分给那坐着的人，分鱼也是这样，都随着他们所要的。 12 他们吃饱了，耶稣对门徒说：“把剩下的零碎收拾起来，免得有糟蹋的。” 13 他们便将那五个大麦饼的零碎，就是众人吃了剩下的，收拾起来，装满了十二个篮子。 14 众人看见耶稣所行的神迹，就说：“这真是那要到世间来的先知！”
15 耶稣既知道众人要来强逼他做王，就独自又退到山上去了。
耶稣履海
16 到了晚上，他的门徒下海边去， 17 上了船，要过海往迦百农去。天已经黑了，耶稣还没有来到他们那里。 18 忽然狂风大作，海就翻腾起来。 19 门徒摇橹约行了十里多路，看见耶稣在海面上走，渐渐近了船，他们就害怕。 20 耶稣对他们说：“是我，不要怕！” 21 门徒就喜欢接他上船，船立时到了他们所要去的地方。
22 第二日，站在海那边的众人知道那里没有别的船，只有一只小船，又知道耶稣没有同他的门徒上船，乃是门徒自己去的。 23 然而有几只小船从提比哩亚来，靠近主祝谢后分饼给人吃的地方。
当为永生的食物劳力
24 众人见耶稣和门徒都不在那里，就上了船，往迦百农去找耶稣。 25 既在海那边找着了，就对他说：“拉比，是几时到这里来的？” 26 耶稣回答说：“我实实在在地告诉你们：你们找我，并不是因见了神迹，乃是因吃饼得饱。 27 不要为那必坏的食物劳力，要为那存到永生的食物劳力，就是人子要赐给你们的，因为人子是父神所印证的。” 28 众人问他说：“我们当行什么，才算做神的工呢？” 29 耶稣回答说：“信神所差来的，这就是做神的工。” 30 他们又说：“你行什么神迹，叫我们看见就信你？你到底做什么事呢？ 31 我们的祖宗在旷野吃过吗哪，如经上写着说：‘他从天上赐下粮来给他们吃。’” 32 耶稣说：“我实实在在地告诉你们：那从天上来的粮不是摩西赐给你们的，乃是我父将天上来的真粮赐给你们。 33 因为神的粮就是那从天上降下来赐生命给世界的。”
耶稣为生命的粮
34 他们说：“主啊，常将这粮赐给我们！” 35 耶稣说：“我就是生命的粮。到我这里来的，必定不饿；信我的，永远不渴。 36 只是我对你们说过，你们已经看见我，还是不信。 37 凡父所赐给我的人，必到我这里来；到我这里来的，我总不丢弃他。 38 因为我从天上降下来，不是要按自己的意思行，乃是要按那差我来者的意思行。 39 差我来者的意思就是：他所赐给我的，叫我一个也不失落，在末日却叫他复活。 40 因为我父的意思是叫一切见子而信的人得永生，并且在末日我要叫他复活。”

主的话是灵是生命
60 他的门徒中有好些人听见了，就说：“这话甚难，谁能听呢？” 61 耶稣心里知道门徒为这话议论，就对他们说：“这话是叫你们厌弃[a]吗？ 62 倘或你们看见人子升到他原来所在之处，怎么样呢？ 63 叫人活着的乃是灵，肉体是无益的。我对你们所说的话就是灵，就是生命。 64 只是你们中间有不信的人。”耶稣从起头就知道谁不信他，谁要卖他。 65 耶稣又说：“所以我对你们说过，若不是蒙我父的恩赐，没有人能到我这里来。”
彼得认耶稣为神的圣者
66 从此，他门徒中多有退去的，不再和他同行。 67 耶稣就对那十二个门徒说：“你们也要去吗？” 68 西门彼得回答说：“主啊，你有永生之道，我们还归从谁呢？ 69 我们已经信了，又知道你是神的圣者。” 70 耶稣说：“我不是拣选了你们十二个门徒吗？但你们中间有一个是魔鬼。” 71 耶稣这话是指着加略人西门的儿子犹大说的，他本是十二个门徒里的一个，后来要卖耶稣的。

8 One of His disciples, (I)Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, 9 “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, (J)but what are they among so many?”
10 Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them [b]to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. 12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” 13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly (K)the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
Jesus Walks on the Sea(L)
15 Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him (M)king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.
16 (N)Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. 18 Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. 19 So when they had rowed about [c]three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were (O)afraid. 20 But He said to them, (P)“It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
The Bread from Heaven
22 On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except [d]that one [e]which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone— 23 however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks— 24 when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, (Q)seeking Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did You come here?”
26 Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 (R)Do not labor for the food which perishes, but (S)for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, (T)because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”
28 Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”
29 Jesus answered and said to them, (U)“This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”
30 Therefore they said to Him, (V)“What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? 31 (W)Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, (X)‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”
32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but (Y)My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”
34 (Z)Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”
35 And Jesus said to them, (AA)“I am the bread of life. (AB)He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never (AC)thirst. 36 (AD)But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet (AE)do not believe. 37 (AF)All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and (AG)the one who comes to Me I will [f]by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, (AH)not to do My own will, (AI)but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, (AJ)that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, (AK)that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
Rejected by His Own
41 The Jews then [g]complained about Him, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.” 42 And they said, (AL)“Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, ‘I have come down from heaven’?”
43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, [h]“Do not murmur among yourselves. 44 (AM)No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me (AN)draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, (AO)‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ (AP)Therefore everyone who [i]has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. 46 (AQ)Not that anyone has seen the Father, (AR)except He who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47 Most assuredly, I say to you, (AS)he who believes [j]in Me has everlasting life. 48 (AT)I am the bread of life. 49 (AU)Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 (AV)This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I am the living bread (AW)which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and (AX)the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.”
52 The Jews therefore (AY)quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”
53 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless (AZ)you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 (BA)Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is [k]food indeed, and My blood is [l]drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood (BB)abides in Me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. 58 (BC)This is the bread which came down from heaven—not (BD)as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
Many Disciples Turn Away
60 (BE)Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a [m]hard saying; who can understand it?”
61 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples [n]complained about this, He said to them, “Does this [o]offend you? 62 (BF)What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before? 63 (BG)It is the Spirit who gives life; the (BH)flesh profits nothing. The (BI)words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. 64 But (BJ)there are some of you who do not believe.” For (BK)Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him. 65 And He said, “Therefore (BL)I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
66 (BM)From that time many of His disciples went [p]back and walked with Him no more. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?”
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have (BN)the words of eternal life. 69 (BO)Also we have come to believe and know that You are the [q]Christ, the Son of the living God.”
70 Jesus answered them, (BP)“Did I not choose you, the twelve, (BQ)and one of you is a devil?” 71 He spoke of (BR)Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would (BS)betray Him, being one of the twelve.
