Si Jesus at ang Babaing Samaritana
4 Nang malaman ni Jesus[a] na nabalitaan ng mga Fariseo na siya ay gumagawa at nagbabautismo ng mas maraming alagad kaysa kay Juan,
2 (kahit hindi nagbabautismo si Jesus, kundi ang kanyang mga alagad)
3 umalis siya sa Judea at muling bumalik sa Galilea.
4 Subalit kailangang dumaan siya sa Samaria.
5 Sumapit(A) siya sa isang lunsod ng Samaria na tinatawag na Sicar, malapit sa bahagi ng lupang ibinigay ni Jacob kay Jose na kanyang anak.
6 Naroon ang balon ni Jacob. Nang pagod na si Jesus sa kanyang paglalakbay, naupo siya sa tabi ng balon. Noon ay malapit nang magtanghaling-tapat.
7 Dumating ang isang babaing Samaritana upang umigib ng tubig. Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Bigyan mo ako ng inumin.”
8 Sapagkat ang kanyang mga alagad ay pumunta sa lunsod upang bumili ng pagkain.
9 Sinabi(B) sa kanya ng babaing Samaritana, “Paanong nangyari na ikaw na isang Judio, ay humihingi ng maiinom sa akin na isang babaing Samaritana? (Sapagkat hindi nakikisama ang mga Judio sa mga Samaritano.)[b]
10 Sumagot si Jesus, “Kung nalalaman mo ang kaloob ng Diyos, at kung sino ang sa iyo'y nagsasabi, ‘Bigyan mo ako ng inumin;’ ikaw ay hihingi sa kanya, at ikaw ay bibigyan niya ng tubig na buháy.”
11 Sinabi sa kanya ng babae, “Ginoo, wala kang pansalok ng tubig, at malalim ang balon. Saan ka ngayon kukuha ng tubig na buháy?
12 Higit ka bang dakila kaysa sa aming amang si Jacob na sa ami'y nagbigay ng balon, at dito'y uminom siya, pati ang kanyang mga anak, at ang kanyang mga hayop?”
13 Sumagot si Jesus sa kanya, “Ang bawat uminom ng tubig na ito ay muling mauuhaw,
14 subalit ang sinumang umiinom ng tubig na aking ibibigay ay hindi na mauuhaw magpakailanman. Ang tubig na aking ibibigay sa kanya ay magiging isang bukal ng tubig tungo sa buhay na walang hanggan.
15 Sinabi sa kanya ng babae, “Ginoo, bigyan mo ako ng tubig na ito upang ako'y hindi na mauhaw o pumarito pa upang umigib.”
16 Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Umalis ka na! Tawagin mo ang iyong asawa at bumalik ka rito.”
17 Ang babae ay sumagot sa kanya, “Wala akong asawa.” Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Tama ang sabi mo, ‘Wala akong asawa;’
18 sapagkat nagkaroon ka na ng limang asawa, at ang kinakasama mo ngayon ay hindi mo asawa. Totoo ang sinabi mong ito.”
19 Sinabi sa kanya ng babae, “Ginoo, nakikita kong ikaw ay isang propeta.
20 Sumamba ang aming mga ninuno sa bundok na ito; ngunit sinasabi ninyo na ang lugar na dapat pagsambahan ng mga tao ay sa Jerusalem.”
21 Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Babae, maniwala ka sa akin na darating ang oras na inyong sasambahin ang Ama, hindi sa bundok na ito o sa Jerusalem.
22 Sinasamba ninyo ang hindi ninyo nakikilala. Sinasamba namin ang nakikilala namin sapagkat ang kaligtasan ay mula sa mga Judio.
23 Subalit dumarating ang oras at ngayon na nga, na sasambahin ng mga tunay na sumasamba ang Ama sa espiritu at katotohanan, sapagkat hinahanap ng Ama ang gayong mga sumasamba sa kanya.
24 Ang Diyos ay espiritu, at ang mga sumasamba sa kanya ay kailangang sumamba sa espiritu at katotohanan.”
25 Sinabi ng babae sa kanya, “Nalalaman ko na darating ang Mesiyas (ang tinatawag na Cristo). Pagdating niya, ay ipahahayag niya sa amin ang lahat ng mga bagay.”
26 Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Ako nga iyon na kumakausap sa iyo!”
27 Nang oras na iyon ay dumating ang kanyang mga alagad. Sila'y nagtaka na siya'y nakikipag-usap sa isang babae, subalit walang nagsabi, “Ano ang gusto mo?” o, “Bakit ka nakikipag-usap sa kanya?”
28 Kaya't iniwan ng babae ang kanyang banga ng tubig at pumunta sa lunsod, at sinabi sa mga tao,
29 “Halikayo, tingnan ninyo ang isang tao na nagsabi sa akin ng lahat ng mga bagay na aking ginawa. Ito na nga kaya ang Cristo?”
30 Lumabas sila sa lunsod, at pumunta sa kanya.
31 Samantala, hinimok siya ng kanyang mga alagad, “Rabi, kumain ka.”
32 Subalit sinabi niya sa kanila, “Ako'y may pagkain na hindi ninyo nalalaman.”
33 Kaya't sinabi ng mga alagad sa isa't isa, “May nagdala kaya sa kanya ng pagkain?”
34 Sinabi sa kanila ni Jesus, “Ang pagkain ko ay ang gawin ang kalooban ng nagsugo sa akin at tapusin ang kanyang gawain.
35 Hindi ba sinasabi ninyo, ‘May apat na buwan pa at darating na ang pag-aani?’ Ngunit sinasabi ko sa inyo, masdan ninyo ang inyong paligid[c] at inyong tingnan ang mga bukid na mapuputi na upang anihin.
36 Ang umaani ay tumatanggap ng upa, at nagtitipon ng bunga para sa buhay na walang hanggan, upang ang naghahasik at ang umaani ay magkasamang magalak.
37 Sapagkat dito'y totoo ang kasabihan, ‘Isa ang naghahasik, at iba ang umaani.’
38 Kayo'y sinugo ko upang anihin ang hindi ninyo pinagpaguran; iba ang nagpagod at kayo'y pumasok sa kanilang pinagpaguran.”
39 At marami sa mga Samaritano sa lunsod na iyon ang sumampalataya sa kanya dahil sa sinabi ng babae, na nagpatotoo, “Sinabi niya sa akin ang lahat ng mga bagay na aking ginawa.”
40 Kaya nang dumating sa kanya ang mga Samaritano, nakiusap sila sa kanya na manatili sa kanila; at siya'y nanatili roon ng dalawang araw.
41 At marami pang sumampalataya sa kanya dahil sa kanyang salita.
42 Sinabi nila sa babae, “Ngayo'y sumampalataya kami, hindi dahil sa iyong sinabi, sapagkat kami mismo ay nakarinig at nalalaman naming ito nga ang Tagapagligtas ng sanlibutan.”
Pinagaling ni Jesus ang Anak ng Isang Pinuno
43 Pagkaraan ng dalawang araw ay umalis siya roon at nagtungo sa Galilea,
44 sapagkat(C) si Jesus din ang nagpatotoo na ang isang propeta ay walang karangalan sa kanyang sariling lupain.
45 Kaya't(D) nang siya'y dumating sa Galilea ay tinanggap siya ng mga taga-Galilea, nang kanilang makita ang lahat ng mga bagay na kanyang ginawa sa Jerusalem sa kapistahan, sapagkat sila ay pumunta rin sa kapistahan.
46 Pagkatapos(E) ay pumunta siyang muli sa Cana ng Galilea na doo'y kanyang ginawang alak ang tubig. At sa Capernaum ay naroroon ang isang pinuno ng pamahalaan na ang anak na lalaki ay maysakit.
47 Nang mabalitaan niya na si Jesus ay dumating sa Galilea mula sa Judea, pumunta siya roon at nakiusap sa kanya na siya'y pumunta at pagalingin ang kanyang anak na lalaki sapagkat siya'y malapit nang mamatay.
48 Kaya't sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Malibang makakita kayo ng mga tanda at mga kababalaghan ay hindi kayo mananampalataya.”
49 Sinabi ng pinuno sa kanya, “Ginoo, pumunta ka na bago mamatay ang aking anak.”
50 Sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Humayo ka na, ang anak mo ay mabubuhay.” Pinaniwalaan ng lalaki ang salitang sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, at siya'y humayo sa kanyang lakad.
51 Habang siya'y papunta, sinalubong siya ng kanyang mga alipin na nagsasabing ang kanyang anak ay ligtas na.[d]
52 Kaya't itinanong niya sa kanila ang oras nang siya'y nagsimulang gumaling. At sinabi nila sa kanya, “Kahapon, nang ika-isa ng hapon, nawalan siya ng lagnat.”
53 Kaya't nalaman ng ama na sa oras na iyon ay sinabi sa kanya ni Jesus, “Ang anak mo ay mabubuhay.” Kaya't siya'y sumampalataya, at ang kanyang buong sambahayan.
54 Ito ang ikalawang tanda na ginawa ni Jesus pagkatapos na siya'y pumunta sa Galilea mula sa Judea.

A Samaritan Woman Meets Her Messiah
4 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and (A)baptized more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), 3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 But He needed to go through Samaria.
5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that (B)Jacob (C)gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.
7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.
9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For (D)Jews have no dealings with (E)Samaritans.
10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the (F)gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you (G)living water.”
11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”
13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but (H)whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him (I)will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
15 (J)The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.”
Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”
19 The woman said to Him, “Sir, (K)I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on (L)this mountain, and you Jews say that in (M)Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.”
21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming (N)when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship (O)what you do not know; we know what we worship, for (P)salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will (Q)worship the Father in (R)spirit (S)and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 (T)God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
25 The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah (U)is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, (V)He will tell us all things.”
26 Jesus said to her, (W)“I who speak to you am He.”
The Whitened Harvest
27 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You talking with her?”
28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man (X)who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
34 Jesus said to them, (Y)“My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to (Z)finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes (AA)the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, (AB)for they are already white for harvest! 36 (AC)And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that (AD)both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: (AE)‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; (AF)others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
The Savior of the World
39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him (AG)because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” 40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of His own (AH)word.
42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for (AI)we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed [a]the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
Welcome at Galilee
43 Now after the two days He departed from there and went to Galilee. 44 For (AJ)Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. 45 So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, (AK)having seen all the things He did in Jerusalem at the feast; (AL)for they also had gone to the feast.
A Nobleman’s Son Healed
46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee (AM)where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain [b]nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. 48 Then Jesus said to him, (AN)“Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”
49 The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”
50 Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!”
52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.
54 This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.

4 Ora doveva passare per la *Samaria. 5 Giunse dunque a una città della Samaria, chiamata Sicar[a], vicina al podere che *Giacobbe aveva dato a suo figlio *Giuseppe; 6 e là c'era il pozzo di Giacobbe. Gesú dunque, stanco del cammino, stava cosí a sedere presso il pozzo. Era circa l'*ora sesta[b].
7 Una Samaritana venne ad attingere l'acqua. Gesú le disse: «Dammi da bere». 8 (Infatti i suoi discepoli erano andati in città a comprar da mangiare.) 9 La Samaritana allora gli disse: «Come mai tu che sei Giudeo chiedi da bere a me, che sono una donna samaritana?» Infatti i Giudei non hanno relazioni con i *Samaritani. 10 Gesú le rispose: «Se tu conoscessi il dono di Dio e chi è che ti dice: “Dammi da bere”, tu stessa gliene avresti chiesto, ed egli ti avrebbe dato dell'acqua viva». 11 La donna gli disse: «Signore, tu non hai nulla per attingere, e il pozzo è profondo; da dove avresti dunque quest'acqua viva? 12 Sei tu piú grande di Giacobbe, nostro padre, che ci diede questo pozzo e ne bevve egli stesso con i suoi figli e il suo bestiame?» 13 Gesú le rispose: «Chiunque beve di quest'acqua avrà sete di nuovo; 14 ma chi beve dell'acqua che io gli darò, non avrà mai piú sete; anzi, l'acqua che io gli darò diventerà in lui una fonte d'acqua che scaturisce in vita eterna». 15 La donna gli disse: «Signore, dammi di quest'acqua, affinché io non abbia piú sete e non venga piú fin qui ad attingere». 16 Gesú le disse: «Va' a chiamar tuo marito e vieni qua». 17 La donna gli rispose: «Non ho marito». E Gesú: «Hai detto bene: “Non ho marito”; 18 perché hai avuto cinque mariti; e quello che hai ora, non è tuo marito; in questo hai detto la verità». 19 La donna gli disse: «Signore, vedo che tu sei un *profeta. 20 I nostri padri hanno adorato su questo monte[c], ma voi dite che a *Gerusalemme è il luogo dove bisogna adorare». 21 Gesú le disse: «Donna, credimi; l'ora viene che né su questo monte né a Gerusalemme adorerete il Padre. 22 Voi adorate quel che non conoscete; noi adoriamo quel che conosciamo, perché la salvezza viene dai Giudei. 23 Ma l'ora viene, anzi è già venuta, che i veri adoratori adoreranno il Padre in spirito e verità; poiché il Padre cerca tali adoratori. 24 Dio è Spirito; e quelli che l'adorano, bisogna che l'adorino in spirito e verità». 25 La donna gli disse: «Io so che il Messia[d] (che è chiamato Cristo) deve venire; quando sarà venuto ci annunzierà ogni cosa». 26 Gesú le disse: «Sono io, io che ti parlo!»
27 (B)In quel mentre giunsero i suoi discepoli e si meravigliarono che egli parlasse con una donna; eppure nessuno gli chiese: «Che cerchi?» o: «Perché discorri con lei?» 28 La donna lasciò dunque la sua secchia, se ne andò in città e disse alla gente: 29 «Venite a vedere un uomo che mi ha detto tutto quello che ho fatto; non potrebbe essere lui il Cristo?» 30 La gente uscí dalla città e andò da lui.
31 Intanto i discepoli lo pregavano, dicendo: «Maestro, mangia». 32 Ma egli disse loro: «Io ho un cibo da mangiare che voi non conoscete». 33 Perciò i discepoli si dicevano gli uni gli altri: «Forse qualcuno gli ha portato da mangiare?» 34 Gesú disse loro: «Il mio cibo è far la volontà di colui che mi ha mandato, e compiere l'opera sua. 35 Non dite voi che ci sono ancora quattro mesi e poi viene la mietitura? Ebbene, vi dico: alzate gli occhi e guardate le campagne come già biancheggiano per la mietitura. 36 Il mietitore riceve una ricompensa e raccoglie frutto per la vita eterna, affinché il seminatore e il mietitore si rallegrino insieme. 37 Poiché in questo è vero il detto: “L'uno semina e l'altro miete”. 38 Io vi ho mandati a mietere là dove voi non avete lavorato; altri hanno faticato, e voi siete subentrati nella loro fatica».
39 Molti Samaritani di quella città credettero in lui a motivo della testimonianza resa da quella donna: «Egli mi ha detto tutto quello che ho fatto». 40 Quando dunque i Samaritani andarono da lui, lo pregarono di trattenersi da loro; ed egli si trattenne là due giorni. 41 E molti di piú credettero a motivo della sua parola 42 e dicevano alla donna: «Non è piú a motivo di quello che tu ci hai detto, che crediamo; perché noi stessi abbiamo udito e sappiamo che questi è veramente il Salvatore del mondo».
Gesú in Galilea; guarigione del figlio di un ufficiale
43 (C)Trascorsi quei due giorni, egli partí di là per andare in Galilea; 44 poiché Gesú stesso aveva attestato che un profeta non è onorato nella sua patria. 45 Quando dunque andò in Galilea, fu accolto dai Galilei, perché avevano visto le cose che egli aveva fatte in Gerusalemme durante la *festa; essi pure infatti erano andati alla festa. 46 Gesú dunque venne di nuovo a Cana di Galilea, dove aveva cambiato l'acqua in vino.
Vi era un ufficiale del re[e], il cui figlio era infermo a *Capernaum. 47 Come egli ebbe udito che Gesú era venuto dalla Giudea in Galilea, andò da lui e lo pregò che scendesse e guarisse suo figlio, perché stava per morire. 48 Perciò Gesú gli disse: «Se non vedete segni e miracoli, voi non crederete». 49 L'ufficiale del re gli disse: «Signore, scendi prima che il mio bambino muoia». 50 Gesú gli disse: «Va', tuo figlio vive». Quell'uomo credette alla parola che Gesú gli aveva detta, e se ne andò. 51 E mentre già stava scendendo, i suoi servi gli andarono incontro e gli dissero: «Tuo figlio vive». 52 Allora egli domandò loro a che ora avesse cominciato a star meglio; ed essi gli risposero: «Ieri, all'ora settima, la febbre lo lasciò». 53 Cosí il padre riconobbe che la guarigione era avvenuta nell'ora che Gesú gli aveva detto: «Tuo figlio vive»; e credette lui con tutta la sua casa.
54 Gesú fece questo secondo segno miracoloso[f], tornando dalla Giudea in Galilea.
