Arrestan a Jesús(A)
18 Después de decir esto, Jesús salió con sus discípulos para ir al otro lado del arroyo Cedrón. Allí había un huerto, donde Jesús entró con sus discípulos. 2 También Judas, el que lo estaba traicionando, conocía el lugar, porque muchas veces Jesús se había reunido allí con sus discípulos. 3 Así que Judas llegó con una tropa de soldados y con algunos guardianes del templo enviados por los jefes de los sacerdotes y por los fariseos. Estaban armados, y llevaban lámparas y antorchas. 4 Pero como Jesús ya sabía todo lo que le iba a pasar, salió y les preguntó:
—¿A quién buscan?
5 Ellos le contestaron:
—A Jesús de Nazaret.
Jesús dijo:
—Yo soy.
Judas, el que lo estaba traicionando, se encontraba allí con ellos. 6 Cuando Jesús les dijo: «Yo soy», se echaron hacia atrás y cayeron al suelo. 7 Jesús volvió a preguntarles:
—¿A quién buscan?
Y ellos repitieron:
—A Jesús de Nazaret.
8 Jesús les dijo otra vez:
—Ya les he dicho que soy yo. Si me buscan a mí, dejen que estos otros se vayan.
9 Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera lo que Jesús mismo había dicho: «Padre, de los que me diste, no se perdió ninguno.» 10 Entonces Simón Pedro, que tenía una espada, la sacó y le cortó la oreja derecha a uno llamado Malco, que era criado del sumo sacerdote. 11 Jesús le dijo a Pedro:
—Vuelve a poner la espada en su lugar. Si el Padre me da a beber este trago amargo, ¿acaso no habré de beberlo?
Jesús ante Anás(B)
12 Los soldados de la tropa, con su comandante y los guardianes judíos del templo, arrestaron a Jesús y lo ataron. 13 Lo llevaron primero a la casa de Anás, porque era suegro de Caifás, sumo sacerdote aquel año. 14 Este Caifás era el mismo que había dicho a los judíos que era mejor para ellos que un solo hombre muriera por el pueblo.
Pedro niega conocer a Jesús(C)
15 Simón Pedro y otro discípulo seguían a Jesús. El otro discípulo era conocido del sumo sacerdote, de modo que entró con Jesús en la casa; 16 pero Pedro se quedó fuera, a la puerta. Por esto, el discípulo conocido del sumo sacerdote salió y habló con la portera, e hizo entrar a Pedro. 17 La portera le preguntó a Pedro:
—¿No eres tú uno de los discípulos de ese hombre?
Pedro contestó:
—No, no lo soy.
18 Como hacía frío, los criados y los guardianes del templo habían hecho fuego, y estaban allí calentándose. Pedro también estaba con ellos, calentándose junto al fuego.
El sumo sacerdote interroga a Jesús(D)
19 El sumo sacerdote comenzó a preguntarle a Jesús acerca de sus discípulos y de lo que él enseñaba. 20 Jesús le dijo:
—Yo he hablado públicamente delante de todo el mundo; siempre he enseñado en las sinagogas y en el templo, donde se reúnen todos los judíos; así que no he dicho nada en secreto. 21 ¿Por qué me preguntas a mí? Pregúntales a los que me han escuchado, y que ellos digan de qué les he hablado. Ellos saben lo que he dicho.
22 Cuando Jesús dijo esto, uno de los guardianes del templo le dio una bofetada, diciéndole:
—¿Así contestas al sumo sacerdote?
23 Jesús le respondió:
—Si he dicho algo malo, dime en qué ha consistido; y si lo que he dicho está bien, ¿por qué me pegas?
24 Entonces Anás lo envió, atado, a Caifás, el sumo sacerdote.
Pedro niega otra vez a Jesús(E)
25 Entre tanto, Pedro seguía allí, calentándose junto al fuego. Le preguntaron:
—¿No eres tú uno de los discípulos de ese hombre?
Pedro lo negó, diciendo:
—No, no lo soy.
26 Luego le preguntó uno de los criados del sumo sacerdote, pariente del hombre a quien Pedro le había cortado la oreja:
—¿No te vi con él en el huerto?
27 Pedro lo negó otra vez, y en ese mismo instante cantó el gallo.
Jesús ante Pilato(F)
28 Llevaron a Jesús de la casa de Caifás al palacio del gobernador romano. Como ya comenzaba a amanecer, los judíos no entraron en el palacio, pues de lo contrario faltarían a las leyes sobre la pureza ritual y entonces no podrían comer la cena de Pascua. 29 Por eso Pilato salió a hablarles. Les dijo:
—¿De qué acusan a este hombre?
30 —Si no fuera un criminal —le contestaron—, no te lo habríamos entregado.
31 Pilato les dijo:
—Llévenselo ustedes, y júzguenlo conforme a su propia ley.
Pero las autoridades judías contestaron:
—Los judíos no tenemos el derecho de dar muerte a nadie.
32 Así se cumplió lo que Jesús había dicho sobre la manera en que tendría que morir. 33 Pilato volvió a entrar en el palacio, llamó a Jesús y le preguntó:
—¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos?
34 Jesús le dijo:
—¿Eso lo preguntas tú por tu cuenta, o porque otros te lo han dicho de mí?
35 Le contestó Pilato:
—¿Acaso yo soy judío? Los de tu nación y los jefes de los sacerdotes son los que te han entregado a mí. ¿Qué has hecho?
36 Jesús le contestó:
—Mi reino no es de este mundo. Si lo fuera, tendría gente a mi servicio que pelearía para que yo no fuera entregado a los judíos. Pero mi reino no es de aquí.
37 Le preguntó entonces Pilato:
—¿Así que tú eres rey?
Jesús le contestó:
—Tú lo has dicho: soy rey. Yo nací y vine al mundo para decir lo que es la verdad. Y todos los que pertenecen a la verdad, me escuchan.
38 Pilato le dijo:
—¿Y qué es la verdad?
Jesús es sentenciado a muerte(G)
Después de hacer esta pregunta, Pilato salió otra vez a hablar con los judíos, y les dijo:
—Yo no encuentro ningún delito en este hombre. 39 Pero ustedes tienen la costumbre de que yo les suelte un preso durante la fiesta de la Pascua: ¿quieren que les deje libre al Rey de los judíos?
40 Todos volvieron a gritar:
—¡A ése no! ¡Suelta a Barrabás!
Y Barrabás era un bandido.

18 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye?
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:
9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.
18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.

Judas Betrays Jesus
18 When Jesus had spoken these words, (A)He went away with His disciples across (B)the [a]ravine of the Kidron, where there was (C)a garden which He entered [b]with His disciples. 2 Now Judas, who was [c]betraying Him, also knew the place, because Jesus had (D)often met there with His disciples. 3 (E)So Judas, having obtained (F)the Roman [d]cohort and (G)officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, *came there with lanterns, (H)torches, and weapons. 4 Jesus therefore, (I)knowing all the things that were coming upon Him, came out into the open and *said to them, “(J)Whom are you seeking?” 5 They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene.” He *said to them, “I am He.” And Judas also, who was betraying Him, was standing with them. 6 Now then, when He said to them, “I am He,” they drew back and fell to the ground. 7 He then asked them again, “(K)Whom are you seeking?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene.” 8 Jesus answered, “I told you that I am He; so if you are seeking Me, let these men go on their way.” 9 This took place so that the word which He spoke would be fulfilled: “(L)Of those whom You have given Me I lost not one.” 10 Then Simon Peter, (M)since he had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slave’s name was Malchus. 11 So Jesus said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; (N)the cup which the Father has given Me, am I not to drink it?”
Jesus before the Priests
12 (O)So (P)the Roman [e]cohort, the [f]commander, and the (Q)officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him, 13 and brought Him to (R)Annas first; for he was the father-in-law of (S)Caiaphas, who was high priest that year. 14 Now Caiaphas was the one who had advised the Jews that (T)it was in their best interest for one man to die in behalf of the people.
15 (U)Simon Peter was following Jesus, and so was another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and he entered with Jesus into (V)the courtyard of the high priest, 16 (W)but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper, and brought Peter in. 17 (X)Then the slave woman who was the doorkeeper *said to Peter, “(Y)You are not also one of this Man’s disciples, are you?” He *said, “I am not.” 18 Now the slaves and the (Z)officers were standing there, having made (AA)a charcoal fire, for it was cold and they were (AB)warming themselves; and Peter was also with them, standing and warming himself.
19 (AC)The high priest then questioned Jesus about His disciples, and about His teaching. 20 Jesus answered him, “I (AD)have spoken openly to the world; I always (AE)taught in [g]synagogues and (AF)in the temple area, where all the Jews congregate; and I said nothing in secret. 21 Why are you asking Me? Ask those who have heard what I spoke to them. Look: these people know what I said.” 22 But when He said this, one of the (AG)officers, who was standing nearby, (AH)struck Jesus, saying, “Is that the way You answer the high priest?” 23 (AI)Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken wrongly, testify of the wrong; but if rightly, why do you strike Me?” 24 (AJ)So Annas sent Him bound to (AK)Caiaphas the high priest.
Peter’s Denial of Jesus
25 (AL)Now (AM)Simon Peter was still standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “(AN)You are not one of His disciples as well, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.” 26 One of the slaves of the high priest, who was related to the one (AO)whose ear Peter cut off, *said, “Did I not see you in (AP)the garden with Him?” 27 Peter then denied it again, and immediately (AQ)a rooster crowed.
Jesus before Pilate
28 (AR)Then they *brought Jesus from (AS)Caiaphas into (AT)the [h]Praetorium, and it was early; and they themselves did not enter (AU)the [i]Praetorium, so that (AV)they would not be defiled, but might eat the Passover. 29 (AW)Therefore Pilate came out to them and *said, “What accusation are you bringing against this Man?” 30 They answered and said to him, “If this Man were not [j]a criminal, we would not have handed Him over to you.” 31 So Pilate said to them, “Take Him yourselves, and judge Him according to your law.” The Jews said to him, “We are not [k]permitted to put anyone to death.” 32 This happened so that (AX)the word of Jesus which He said, indicating what kind of death He was going to die, would be fulfilled.
33 Therefore Pilate (AY)entered the Praetorium again, and summoned Jesus and said to Him, “(AZ)You are the King of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Are you saying this [l]on your own, or did others tell you about Me?” 35 Pilate answered, “I am not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests handed You over to me; what have You done?” 36 Jesus answered, “(BA)My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not [m]of this realm.” 37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “(BB)You say correctly that I am a king. For this purpose I have been born, and for this I have come into the world: (BC)to testify to the truth. (BD)Everyone who is of the truth listens to My voice.” 38 Pilate *said to Him, “What is truth?”
And after saying this, he (BE)came out again to the Jews and *said to them, “(BF)I find no grounds at all for charges in [n]His case. 39 (BG)However, you have a custom that I release one prisoner [o]for you at the Passover; therefore do you wish that I release [p]for you the King of the Jews?” 40 So they shouted again, saying, “(BH)Not this Man, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a rebel.
