17 Estas cosas habló Jesús, y alzando los ojos al cielo(A), dijo: Padre, la hora ha llegado; glorifica a tu Hijo, para que el Hijo te glorifique a ti(B), 2 por cuanto le diste autoridad sobre todo ser humano[a](C) para que dé vida eterna(D) a todos los que tú le has dado[b](E). 3 Y esta es la vida eterna: que te conozcan a ti, el único Dios verdadero(F), y a Jesucristo, a quien has enviado(G). 4 Yo te glorifiqué(H) en la tierra, habiendo terminado la obra que me diste que hiciera(I). 5 Y ahora, glorifícame tú, Padre(J), junto a ti, con la gloria que tenía contigo antes que el mundo existiera(K). 6 He manifestado tu nombre(L) a los hombres que del mundo me diste(M); eran tuyos(N) y me los diste, y han guardado tu palabra(O). 7 Ahora han conocido que todo lo que me has dado viene de ti; 8 porque yo les he dado las palabras(P) que me diste(Q); y las recibieron, y entendieron que en verdad salí de ti(R), y creyeron que tú me enviaste(S). 9 Yo ruego por ellos(T); no ruego por el mundo(U), sino por los que me has dado(V); porque son tuyos(W); 10 y todo lo mío es tuyo, y lo tuyo, mío(X); y he sido glorificado en ellos. 11 Ya no estoy en el mundo, pero ellos sí están en el mundo, y yo voy a ti(Y). Padre santo(Z), guárdalos en tu nombre, el nombre que[c] me has dado(AA), para que sean uno, así como nosotros(AB). 12 Cuando estaba con ellos, los guardaba en tu nombre, el nombre que[d] me diste(AC); y los guardé y ninguno se perdió(AD), excepto el hijo de perdición(AE), para que la Escritura se cumpliera(AF). 13 Pero ahora voy a ti(AG); y hablo esto en el mundo para que tengan mi gozo completo en sí mismos(AH). 14 Yo les he dado tu palabra y el mundo los ha odiado(AI), porque no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo(AJ). 15 No te ruego que los saques del mundo, sino que los guardes del[e] maligno[f](AK). 16 Ellos no son del mundo, como tampoco yo soy del mundo(AL). 17 Santifícalos en la verdad; tu palabra es verdad(AM). 18 Como tú me enviaste(AN) al mundo, yo también los he enviado(AO) al mundo. 19 Y por ellos yo me santifico(AP), para que ellos también sean santificados(AQ) en la verdad(AR). 20 Mas no ruego solo por estos, sino también por los que han de creer en mí por la palabra de ellos, 21 para que todos sean uno. Como tú, oh Padre, estás en mí y yo en ti(AS), que también ellos estén en nosotros, para que el mundo crea[g] que tú me enviaste(AT). 22 La gloria que me diste(AU) les he dado, para que sean uno, así como nosotros somos uno: 23 yo en ellos, y tú en mí, para que sean perfeccionados en unidad[h](AV), para que el mundo sepa[i] que tú me enviaste(AW), y que los amaste(AX) tal como me has amado a mí. 24 Padre, quiero que los que me has dado(AY), estén también conmigo donde yo estoy[j](AZ), para que vean mi gloria, la gloria que me has dado(BA); porque me has amado desde antes de la fundación del mundo(BB). 25 Oh Padre justo(BC), aunque[k] el mundo no te ha conocido, yo te he conocido(BD), y estos han conocido que tú me enviaste(BE). 26 Yo les he dado a conocer tu nombre(BF), y lo daré a conocer, para que el amor con que me amaste(BG) esté en ellos y yo en ellos.

17 Sau khi nói những lời ấy thì Chúa Giê-xu ngước mắt lên trời cầu nguyện rằng, “Thưa Cha, giờ đã đến; xin hãy làm vinh hiển Con để Con cũng làm vinh hiển Cha, 2 Vì Cha đã giao trọn quyền cho Con trên khắp nhân gian để Con ban sự sống đời đời cho những người Cha giao cho Con. 3 Sự sống đời đời là nhìn biết Cha, Thượng Đế chân thật duy nhất và nhận biết Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu là Đấng Cha sai đến. 4 Con đã làm vinh hiển danh Cha trên đất và hoàn tất việc Cha giao cho. 5 Thưa Cha, bây giờ xin hãy cho Con sự vinh hiển mà Con đã có với Cha từ trước khi vũ trụ được dựng nên.

6 Con đã tỏ bày Cha cho những người Cha giao cho Con từ trong thế gian. Họ thuộc về Cha. Cha giao họ cho Con. Họ đã vâng giữ lời dạy của Cha. 7 Bây giờ họ biết rằng những gì Cha cho Con đều từ Cha mà đến. 8 Con đã dạy họ những điều Cha trao cho Con; họ đã tiếp nhận những lời dạy ấy và biết rằng Con thật đến từ Cha. 20 Không những Con cầu thay cho họ, nhưng cũng cầu thay cho những kẻ sẽ nghe lời dạy của họ mà tin Con. 21 Lạy Cha, Con cầu xin cho họ được hiệp nhất như Cha trong Con và Con trong Cha. Con cầu xin cho họ ở trong chúng ta để thế gian tin rằng Cha sai Con đến. 22 Con cho họ vinh hiển mà Cha đã cho Con, để họ hiệp nhất cũng như Cha và Con hiệp nhất. 23 Con ở trong họ và Cha ở trong Con, để họ hoàn toàn hiệp nhất. Jesus prays for himself

17 After Jesus said this, he looked up to heaven. He said, ‘Father, the time has now arrived. Show everyone how great your Son is. So then I, the Son, can show how great you are. 2 You gave me authority over all people. You did this so that I could give people life for ever. Those are the people that you gave to me. 3 What does it mean for people to live with you for ever? It means that they know you, the one who is the only true God. They also know me, Jesus Christ, the one that you have sent. 4 I have shown people here on the earth how great you are. In that way, I have finished the work that you gave to me to do. 5 So, Father, now that I return to you, show people how great I am. Before the world began, I had great glory with you. Show again that I am great like that.’

Jesus prays for his disciples

6 ‘You gave some people to me who were from this world.[a] I have shown them who you are. They were yours and you gave them to me. They have obeyed your message. 7 Everything that I have comes from you. Now they know that you gave me everything. 8 I gave to them the message that you gave to me. They accepted that message. They know certainly that I came from you. They believe that you sent me.

9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the people who belong to this world. No, I am praying for those people that you have given to me. I am praying for them because they are yours. 10 Everything that I have is yours. And everything that you have is mine. These people have shown how great I am. 11 I will not remain in the world any longer. I will return to you now. But they will still be here in the world. Holy Father, please keep them safe in your name. That is the powerful name that you gave to me. Then they can be united in the same way that you and I are united. 12 While I was with them, I kept them safe in the power of your name. That is the name that you gave to me. I kept them safe so that only one of them turned away from you. That was the man who had to become lost. The Bible already said that it would happen in that way.[b]

13 Now, Father, I will come to you. I am saying these things while I am still in the world. Then these people, my disciples, can be completely happy. I want them to be completely happy in the same way that I am happy. 14 I have given your message to them. The world's people have hated them because they do not belong to the world. They do not belong to the world, in the same way that I do not belong to the world. 15 I am not asking that you will take them out of the world. But I ask you to keep them safe from the Devil. 16 They do not belong to the world, in the same way that I do not belong to the world. 17 Help them to belong completely to you, as they follow the truth. Your message is the truth. 18 I have sent them into the world, in the same way that you sent me into the world. 19 On their behalf I give myself to you, so that I belong completely to you. Then they also can completely belong to you, as they follow the truth.’

Jesus prays for everyone who will believe in him

20 ‘I do not pray only for these people, my disciples. I pray also for those people who will believe in me because of my disciples' message. 21 I pray that all of them will become united. You, Father, are in me and I am in you. I pray that they also will be united in us. Then the world's people will believe that you sent me. 22 I have given to them the same honour that you gave to me. Now they can be united in the same way that you and I are united. 23 I will be in them, and you will be in me, so that they can be completely united. As a result, the world's people will know that you sent me. They will also know that you love my own people as you love me.

24 Father, you have given these people to me. I want them to be with me where I am. Then they will see how great I am. You made me great because you loved me. You loved me even before the world began. 25 Father, you always do what is right. The world's people do not know you, but I know you. These disciples know that you have sent me. 26 I have shown them what you are like. And I will continue to show them what you are like. Then they will love other people, in the same way that you love me. And I myself will be in them.’

Jesus Prays to Be Glorified

17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven(A) and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come.(B) Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.(C) 2 For you granted him authority over all people(D) that he might give eternal life(E) to all those you have given him.(F) 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you,(G) the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.(H) 4 I have brought you glory(I) on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.(J) 5 And now, Father, glorify me(K) in your presence with the glory I had with you(L) before the world began.(M)

6 “I have revealed you[a](N) to those whom you gave me(O) out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me(P) and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you,(Q) and they believed that you sent me.(R) 9 I pray for them.(S) I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me,(T) for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine.(U) And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world,(V) and I am coming to you.(W) Holy Father, protect them by the power of[b] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one(X) as we are one.(Y) 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by[c] that name you gave me. None has been lost(Z) except the one doomed to destruction(AA) so that Scripture would be fulfilled.(AB)

13 “I am coming to you now,(AC) but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy(AD) within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them,(AE) for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.(AF) 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.(AG) 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.(AH) 17 Sanctify them by[d] the truth; your word is truth.(AI) 18 As you sent me into the world,(AJ) I have sent them into the world.(AK) 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.(AL)

Jesus Prays for All Believers

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one,(AM) Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.(AN) May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.(AO) 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me,(AP) that they may be one as we are one(AQ)— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me(AR) and have loved them(AS) even as you have loved me.

24 “Father, I want those you have given me(AT) to be with me where I am,(AU) and to see my glory,(AV) the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.(AW)

25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you,(AX) I know you, and they know that you have sent me.(AY) 26 I have made you[e] known to them,(AZ) and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them(BA) and that I myself may be in them.”
