Nagpatindog ang mga Israelinhon ug Monumento
4 Sa dihang nakatabok na ang tanang katawhan sa Israel sa Suba sa Jordan, miingon ang Ginoo kang Josue, 2 “Pagpili ug 12 ka mga tawo, usa sa matag tribo, 3 ug sugoa sila nga magkuha ang matag usa kanila ug tagsa ka bato taliwala sa Suba sa Jordan, didto gayod mismo sa gitindogan sa mga pari, ug dad-on nila kini sa dapit diin kamo magkampo karong gabhiona.”
4 Busa gitawag ni Josue ang 12 ka mga tawo nga iyang gipili gikan sa matag tribo sa Israel, ug iya silang giingnan, 5 “Adto kamo sa taliwala sa suba, atubangan sa nahimutangan sa Kahon sa Kasabotan sa Ginoo nga inyong Dios. Ang matag usa kaninyo magkuha ug tagsa ka bato nga inyong pas-anon, usa alang sa matag tribo sa Israel. 6 Ug unya tapokon ninyo kini aron mapormag monumento isip handomanan sa gihimo sa Ginoo. Sa umaabot nga panahon, kon mangutana ang inyong mga anak unsay kahulogan niini nga mga bato, 7 suginli ninyo sila nga mihunong ang pagdagayday sa tubig sa Suba sa Jordan sa dihang gitabok ang sudlanan sa Kasabotan sa Ginoo. Kining mga batoha magpabilin nga usa ka handomanan alang sa katawhan sa Israel hangtod sa kahangtoran.”
8 Gituman sa 12 ka mga Israelinhon ang gisugo kanila ni Josue. Sumala sa giingon sa Ginoo kang Josue, nagkuha sila ug 12 ka mga bato taliwala sa suba, usa ka bato alang sa matag tribo sa Israel. Gidala nila ang maong mga bato sa dapit nga ilang gikampohan ug gipahimutang kini didto. 9 Mipahimutang usab si Josue ug 12 ka bato taliwala sa suba, didto gayod mismo sa dapit nga gitindogan sa mga pari nga nagdayong sa sudlanan sa Kasabotan. Ug hangtod karon anaa pa kining mga batoha. 10 Padayon nga nagtindog taliwala sa suba ang mga pari hangtod nga natuman ang tanang gisugo sa Ginoo kang Josue, nga katumanan usab sa gisugo ni Moises kang Josue.
11 Sa dihang nakatabok na ang tanan, gitabok usab sa mga pari ang sudlanan sa Kasabotan. Ug miuna na usab sa mga tawo ang mga pari.[a] 12 Ang mga armadong lalaki nga gikan sa tribo ni Reuben, ni Gad, ug katunga sa tribo ni Manase miuna pagtabok sumala sa gisugo ni Moises kanila. 13 Kining 40,000 ka mga armadong kalalakin-an miagi sa presensya sa Ginoo[b] ug miadto sa kapatagan sa Jerico aron sa pagpakiggira.
14 Nianang adlawa, gipasidunggan sa Ginoo si Josue atubangan sa mga Israelinhon. Ug gitahod si Josue sa mga tawo sa tibuok niyang kinabuhi sama sa gihimo nila ngadto kang Moises.
15 Sa didto pa taliwala sa Suba ang mga pari miingon ang Ginoo kang Josue: 16-17 “Mandoi ang mga pari nga nagadayong sa Kahon sa Kasugoan[c] sa pagkawas gikan sa Suba sa Jordan.” Ug gituman kadto ni Josue. 18 Busa mikawas ang mga pari nga nagadayong sa sudlanan sa Kasabotan sa Ginoo. Pagtunob gayod nila sa mamalang dapit, midagayday pag-usab ang suba ug nagaawas ang tubig sama kaniadto.
19 Ang pagtabok sa mga Israelinhon sa Suba sa Jordan nahitabo sa ikanapulo nga adlaw sa unang bulan. Unya nagkampo sila sa Gilgal, sa sidlakang bahin sa Jerico. 20 Gipahimutang ni Josue didto ang 12 ka mga bato nga gipakuha niya gikan sa Suba sa Jordan. 21 Miingon si Josue sa mga Israelinhon, “Sa umaabot nga panahon, kon mangutana ang inyong mga anak kaninyo unsay kahulogan niining mga batoha, 22 suginlan ninyo sila nga milakaw ang mga Israelinhon sa mamalang yuta sa dihang mitabok sila sa Suba sa Jordan. 23 Kay gipamala sa Ginoo nga inyong Dios ang Suba sa Jordan hangtod nga nakatabok kamo sama sa gihimo niya kaniadto sa Pulang Dagat hangtod nga nakatabok kita. 24 Gihimo niya kini aron ilhon sa tanang katawhan sa kalibotan nga gamhanan gayod ang Ginoo, ug aron motahod kamo kanunay sa Ginoo nga inyong Dios.”

4 When the last one had crossed the Jordan, the Eternal One spoke to Joshua.
Eternal One: 2 Summon the twelve men you chose from the people, one representing each tribe, 3 and tell them to take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan riverbed where the priests stand with the covenant chest. Tell them to carry these stones this day, and when the people make camp tonight, to lay them down.
4 Joshua did just as He instructed and summoned the twelve men, who had been chosen from the Israelites to represent the twelve tribes, 5 to give them instructions.
Joshua: Go back into the Jordan riverbed to the covenant chest of the Eternal your God, and each carry a stone upon your shoulder, (twelve stones for the twelve tribes of the Israelites) 6 so that we may build a memorial of this day. Someday when your children ask you, “Why are these stones piled up here?” 7 you will tell them how the waters of the Jordan parted as the covenant chest of the Eternal One crossed the river, and these stones will fix that memory for the Israelites forever.
Memory is important in the Book of Joshua and in the stories that follow. When the people of Israel remember God’s promises—and His goodness—good things happen. But when they forget, they turn to other things for meaning; they put their trust in other gods—money, power, position, and possessions. It’s been a problem for the people of God up to the present day, so these attempts to remember can remind us about God’s great works. It has always been true that when God’s people take their eyes off Him, they forget the lessons of the past. We honor God through our worship, and we are reminded of significant lessons learned when we praise Him.
8 The Israelites did as the Eternal commanded through Joshua. They carried twelve stones from the riverbed that day, one for each Israelite tribe, and laid them down that night when they made their camp. 9 Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan where the priests who had carried the covenant chest stood, and the stones remain there to this day.
10 The priests who carried the chest stood in the Jordan until all the people had hurried across, until all had been accomplished that the Eternal and Moses had commanded Joshua to tell the people.
11 Only then, when all of the people had passed, did the priests bearing the chest of the Eternal cross over into the presence of the people.
12-13 On the western side of the Jordan stood about 40,000 men ready for battle, including fighters from the people of Reuben and Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh who had crossed onto the plains of Jericho in the presence of the Eternal, as they had been commanded by Moses. 14 That day the Eternal exalted Joshua in the eyes of the people, and they looked up to him (as they had looked up to Moses before him) for the rest of his life.
15 Then the Eternal One told Joshua,
Eternal One: 16 Command the priests who are carrying the covenant chest to come out of the Jordan.
17 Joshua gave the order.
18 As the people watched, the priests carried the chest of the Eternal up out of the Jordan; and as soon as they had stepped out of the riverbed, the river was filled and overflowing, just as it had been before.
19 The Israelites crossed the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month and camped at Gilgal on the eastern edge of Jericho. 20 This was where Joshua set up the twelve stones from the Jordan riverbed. 21 He summoned the people of Israel.
Joshua: Someday your children will ask you, “What do these stones mean?” 22 And you will tell them, “Israel crossed the Jordan here on dry ground.” 23 For the Eternal One, your God, dried up the waters of the Jordan until you crossed over (just as He held back the Red Sea for our parents until they crossed) 24 so that everyone on earth would know how powerful the Eternal is and so that you would reverence your God, the Eternal, forever.

4 And it came to pass, when all the people had completely crossed (A)over the Jordan, that the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying: 2 (B)“Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from every tribe, 3 and command them, saying, ‘Take for yourselves twelve stones from here, out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where (C)the priests’ feet stood firm. You shall carry them over with you and leave them in (D)the lodging place where you lodge tonight.’ ”
4 Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had appointed from the children of Israel, one man from every tribe; 5 and Joshua said to them: “Cross over before the ark of the Lord your God into the midst of the Jordan, and each one of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, 6 that this may be (E)a sign among you (F)when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’ 7 Then you shall answer them that (G)the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. And these stones shall be for (H)a memorial to the children of Israel forever.”
8 And the children of Israel did so, just as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan, as the Lord had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. 9 Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.
10 So the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the Lord had commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and crossed over. 11 Then it came to pass, when all the people had completely crossed over, that the (I)ark of the Lord and the priests crossed over in the presence of the people. 12 And (J)the men of Reuben, the men of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses had spoken to them. 13 About forty thousand [a]prepared for war crossed over before the Lord for battle, to the plains of Jericho. 14 On that day the Lord (K)exalted[b] Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.
15 Then the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying, 16 “Command the priests who bear (L)the ark of the Testimony to come up from the Jordan.” 17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come up from the Jordan.” 18 And it came to pass, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord had come from the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet touched the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place (M)and overflowed all its banks as before.
19 Now the people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they camped (N)in Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. 20 And (O)those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal. 21 Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: (P)“When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, saying, (Q)‘Israel crossed over this Jordan on (R)dry land’; 23 for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, (S)which He dried up before us until we had crossed over, 24 (T)that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is (U)mighty, that you may (V)fear the Lord your God [c]forever.”

4 When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan,(A) the Lord said to Joshua, 2 “Choose twelve men(B) from among the people, one from each tribe, 3 and tell them to take up twelve stones(C) from the middle of the Jordan,(D) from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.(E)”
4 So Joshua called together the twelve men(F) he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe, 5 and said to them, “Go over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan.(G) Each of you is to take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, 6 to serve as a sign(H) among you. In the future, when your children(I) ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’(J) 7 tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off(K) before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial(L) to the people of Israel forever.”
8 So the Israelites did as Joshua commanded them. They took twelve stones(M) from the middle of the Jordan,(N) according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, as the Lord had told Joshua;(O) and they carried them over with them to their camp, where they put them down. 9 Joshua set up the twelve stones(P) that had been[a] in the middle of the Jordan at the spot where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant had stood. And they are there to this day.(Q)
10 Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything the Lord had commanded Joshua was done by the people, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people hurried over, 11 and as soon as all of them had crossed, the ark of the Lord and the priests came to the other side while the people watched. 12 The men of Reuben,(R) Gad(S) and the half-tribe of Manasseh(T) crossed over, ready for battle, in front of the Israelites,(U) as Moses had directed them.(V) 13 About forty thousand armed for battle(W) crossed over(X) before the Lord to the plains of Jericho for war.
14 That day the Lord exalted(Y) Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they stood in awe of him all the days of his life, just as they had stood in awe of Moses.
15 Then the Lord said to Joshua, 16 “Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant law(Z) to come up out of the Jordan.”
17 So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up out of the Jordan.”
18 And the priests came up out of the river carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord. No sooner had they set their feet on the dry ground than the waters of the Jordan returned to their place(AA) and ran at flood stage(AB) as before.
19 On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal(AC) on the eastern border of Jericho. 20 And Joshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones(AD) they had taken out of the Jordan. 21 He said to the Israelites, “In the future when your descendants ask their parents, ‘What do these stones mean?’(AE) 22 tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’(AF) 23 For the Lord your God dried up the Jordan before you until you had crossed over. The Lord your God did to the Jordan what he had done to the Red Sea[b] when he dried it up before us until we had crossed over.(AG) 24 He did this so that all the peoples of the earth might know(AH) that the hand of the Lord is powerful(AI) and so that you might always fear the Lord your God.(AJ)”
