Josué envía espías a Jericó
2 Desde Sitín, Josué hijo de Nun envió en secreto a dos espías, y les dijo:
«Vayan y hagan un reconocimiento de esas tierras, y de la ciudad de Jericó.»
Ellos fueron y entraron en casa de una ramera, de nombre Rajab,(A) y allí pasaron la noche. 2 Pero alguien los vio, y fue a darle aviso al rey. Le dijo:
«Debes saber que unos israelitas han llegado esta noche para espiar nuestra tierra.»
3 Entonces el rey mandó a decir a Rajab:
«Saca a los hombres que han llegado a tu casa, pues han venido a espiar nuestras tierras.»
4 Pero ella había escondido ya a los dos hombres, y respondió:
«Es verdad que unos hombres vinieron a mi casa, pero no me enteré de dónde eran. 5 Como ya era de noche, esos hombres salieron cuando ya se iba a cerrar la puerta de la ciudad, y no sé a dónde se fueron. Si van tras ellos, tal vez los alcancen.»
6 Pero ella les había dicho a los espías que subieran a la azotea, y los había escondido entre los manojos de lino que allí había. 7 Sus perseguidores se fueron por el camino del Jordán, hasta los vados, y en cuanto salieron de la ciudad cerraron la puerta.
8 Antes de que los espías se durmieran, la mujer subió a la azotea y les dijo:
9 «Yo sé que el Señor les ha dado esta tierra. Todos los habitantes del país les tienen miedo. Por causa de ustedes están tan atemorizados, que su ánimo está por los suelos. 10 Sabemos que, cuando ustedes salieron de Egipto, el Señor hizo que el Mar Rojo se secara(B) al paso de ustedes. También sabemos lo que ustedes hicieron con Sijón y Og, los dos reyes amorreos al otro lado del Jordán, a quienes ustedes destruyeron.(C) 11 Cuando lo supimos, nuestro ánimo decayó. Por culpa de ustedes, ya no les queda ánimo a nuestros hombres, pues el Señor es Dios en los cielos y en la tierra. 12 Por eso les ruego que me juren por el Señor, que así como yo he tenido misericordia de ustedes, también ustedes la tengan con la casa de mi padre. Pero deben darme una señal segura 13 de que la vida de mi padre y de mi madre, de mis hermanos y hermanas, y de todo lo que es de ellos, serán libradas de la muerte.»
14 Ellos le respondieron:
«Con nuestra vida respondemos por la vida de ustedes. Si ustedes no nos denuncian, puedes estar segura de que, cuando el Señor nos haya dado la tierra, tendremos misericordia de ti.»
15 Entonces, con una cuerda, ella los descolgó por la ventana, porque la casa en la que vivía estaba pegada a la muralla de la ciudad. 16 Luego les dijo:
«Váyanse al monte, para que sus perseguidores no los encuentren. Escóndanse allí unos tres días, hasta que ellos regresen; después, podrán irse por donde vinieron.»
17 Ellos le dijeron:
«Nosotros te hemos hecho un juramento, y lo vamos a cumplir. Así quedaremos libres de culpa. 18 Pero tú debes atar este cordón rojo en la ventana por donde nos descolgaste. Eso nos servirá de señal cuando entremos a la ciudad. Reúne en tu casa a toda tu familia, es decir, a tu padre y a tu madre, y a todos tus hermanos y parientes. 19 Todos los que estén contigo dentro de esta casa, estarán a salvo. Si algo les pasa, nosotros cargaremos con la culpa de su muerte. Pero todo el que salga de las puertas de tu casa, será culpable de su propia muerte, y nosotros no cargaremos con la culpa. 20 Si tú nos denuncias, quedaremos libres del juramento que nos has obligado a hacerte.»
21 Y ella respondió:
«Hágase todo tal y como lo han dicho.»
Luego los despidió, y en cuanto se fueron ella ató el cordón rojo a la ventana. 22 Los espías se fueron al monte, y allí estuvieron tres días, hasta que sus perseguidores, que los anduvieron buscando por todo el camino, regresaron porque no los encontraron. 23 Los dos hombres salieron del monte, cruzaron el río, y se fueron a ver a Josué hijo de Nun para contarle todo lo que les había sucedido. 24 Le dijeron:
«El Señor ha puesto esta tierra en nuestras manos. Por causa nuestra, todos los habitantes del país han perdido el ánimo.»

2 And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.
2 And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to night of the children of Israel to search out the country.
3 And the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, which are entered into thine house: for they be come to search out all the country.
4 And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were:
5 And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them.
6 But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.
7 And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.
8 And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;
9 And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.
10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.
11 And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath.
12 Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the Lord, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token:
13 And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.
14 And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the Lord hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.
15 Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.
16 And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.
17 And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear.
18 Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee.
19 And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.
20 And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.
21 And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.
22 And they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.
23 So the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all things that befell them:
24 And they said unto Joshua, Truly the Lord hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us.

2 嫩的儿子约书亚从什亭暗中派两个人作探子，说：“你们去窥探那地和耶利哥。”于是二人去了，来到一个名叫喇合的妓女家里，在那里睡觉。 2 有人告诉耶利哥王说：“看哪，今夜有以色列人到这里来窥探此地。” 3 耶利哥王派人到喇合那里， 说：“你要交出那来到你这里、进了你家的人，因为他们来是要窥探全地。” 4 但女人已把二人藏起来，却说：“那两个人确实到我这里来过，他们从哪里来，我却不知道。 5 天黑、要关城门的时候，他们就出去了。他们往哪里去我也不知道。你们赶快去追他们，就必追上。” 6 其实，这女人已经领二人上了屋顶，把他们藏在她摆列在屋顶的亚麻梗中。 7 那些人就往约旦河的路上追赶他们，直到渡口。追赶他们的人一出去，城门就关了。
8 二人还没有睡之前，女人就上屋顶，到他们那里， 9 对他们说：“我知道耶和华已经把这地赐给你们了，并且我们也都惧怕你们。这地所有的居民在你们面前都融化了。 10 因为我们听见你们出埃及的时候，耶和华怎样在你们前面使红海[a]的水干了，并且你们怎样处置约旦河东的两个亚摩利王，西宏和噩，把他们完全消灭。 11 我们一听见就胆战心惊[b]，人人因你们的缘故勇气全失。耶和华—你们的 神是天上地下的 神。 12 现在我既然恩待你们，求你们指着耶和华向我起誓，你们也要恩待我的父家。请你们给我一个确实的凭据， 13 要救活我的父母、兄弟、姊妹，和所有属他们的，拯救我们的性命脱离死亡。” 14 那二人对她说：“我们愿意以性命来替你们死。你们若不泄漏我们这件事，当耶和华将这地赐给我们的时候，我们必以慈爱和诚信待你。”
15 于是女人用绳子把二人从窗户缒下去，因为她的屋子是在城墙边上，她也住在城墙上。 16 她对他们说：“你们暂且往山上去，免得追赶的人遇见你们。要在那里躲藏三天，等追赶的人回来，你们才可以走自己的路。” 17 二人对她说：“你叫我们所起的誓与我们无关， 18 除非，看哪，当我们来到这地的时候，你把这条朱红线绳子系在缒我们下去的窗户上，并要叫你的父母、兄弟和你父的全家都聚集在你家中。 19 凡离开你家门往街上去的，他的血必归到自己头上，与我们无关；凡在你家里的，若有人下手害他，他的血就归到我们头上。 20 你若泄漏我们这件事，你叫我们所起的誓[c]就与我们无关了。” 21 女人说：“就照你们的话吧！”于是她送他们走了，就把朱红绳子系在窗户上。
22 二人离开，到山上去，在那里停留三天，直等到追赶的人回去。追赶的人一路寻找，却找不着。 23 二人回来，下了山，过了河，来到嫩的儿子约书亚那里，向他报告他们所遭遇的一切事。 24 他们对约书亚说：“耶和华果然将那全地交在我们手中了，并且那地所有的居民在我们面前都融化了。”
