²⁵ And Joshua said, “Why did you ^(A)bring trouble on us? The Lord brings trouble on you today.” And all Israel ^(B)stoned him with stones. ^(C)They burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.

¹⁸ But you, keep yourselves from the things devoted to destruction, lest when you have devoted them you take any of the devoted things and make the camp of Israel ^(A)a thing for destruction and ^(B)bring trouble upon it.

⁷ The son^[a] of Carmi: Achan, the troubler of Israel, who ^(A)broke faith in the matter of the devoted thing;

⁵ then you shall bring out to your gates that man or woman who has done this evil thing, and you ^(A)shall stone that man or woman to death with stones.

^14 (A)“Bring out of the camp the one who cursed, and let all who heard him ^(B)lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

¹¹ Israel has sinned; they have ^(A)transgressed my covenant that I commanded them; they have taken some of the ^(B)devoted things; they have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings. ^12 (C)Therefore the people of Israel cannot stand before their enemies. They ^(D)turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become ^(E)devoted for destruction.^[a] I will be with you no more, unless you destroy ^(F)the devoted things from among you. ¹³ Get up! Consecrate the people and say, ^(G)‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says the Lord, God of Israel, “There are devoted things in your midst, O Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted things from among you.”

² “Say to the people of Israel, ^(A)Any one of the people of Israel or of the strangers who sojourn in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.

¹⁵ See to it that no one ^(A)fails to obtain the grace of God; that no ^(B)“root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;

⁶ since indeed God considers it ^(A)just ^(B)to repay with affliction those who afflict you,

¹² I wish ^(A)those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!
