Joshua 6
The Voice
6 The citizens of Jericho had barricaded themselves behind its high walls because of the Israelite forces. No one could get in or out.
Eternal One (to Joshua): 2 I have given Jericho, its king, and all its soldiers into your hands. 3 Every day for the next six days, you will march once around the city walls with all your fighting force. 4 Seven priests will go in front of the covenant chest, each carrying a trumpet made from a ram’s horn. On the seventh day, you will march around the city walls seven times, and the priests will blow their trumpets. 5 When they play a long final blast, then all the people will give a mighty shout. The city walls will collapse in front of you, and all the Israelites will charge in and take the city.
6 So Joshua, the son of Nun, summoned the priests and instructed them.
Joshua: Take up the chest and have seven priests, each carrying a ram’s horn trumpet, march in front of the covenant chest of the Eternal.
7 Then he gave orders to the people.
Joshua: March around the city with the fighting men marching ahead of the chest of the Eternal.
8-9 So they all proceeded as Joshua had commanded them. The fighting men led the way; the seven priests marched after them, blowing their horns continually in front of the covenant chest of the Eternal, and the rear guard followed behind.
10 Joshua gave the Israelites very strict instructions.
Joshua: Don’t yell or shout. Don’t let your voice be heard until the day I tell you. And then I want you to shout with all your might.
11 So they circled the city once, carrying the covenant chest of the Eternal, and that night they returned to their camp. 12 The next morning, Joshua rose early, the priests carried the chest of the Eternal, 13-14 and they all marched around the city in exactly the same order as they had the day before: the armed men, seven trumpeting priests, the chest of the Eternal, and the rear guard, all making one complete circuit around the city with its great walls. That night they returned to their camp, and the next four days proceeded just like the first two.
15 But on the seventh day, they rose with the sun and the procession marched around the city walls seven times; that was the only day they made seven circuits around the city walls. 16 After the seventh and final circuit, when the priests had raised a mighty noise on their trumpets, Joshua turned to the people.
Joshua: Shout! Shout! For the Eternal One has given you the city! 17 The city and all who are in it will be destroyed completely as an offering to Him, except for the prostitute Rahab and those who are with her in her house. Her life will be spared as a reward for sheltering our two spies.
18 Be sure to stay away from these things that He has devoted to complete destruction so that you won’t be tempted to pick something up and carry it away. Anyone who disobeys God in this matter will bring destruction on all of us.
19 Any silver or gold, any bronze or iron vessels should not be burned; instead, they should be set aside for the Eternal’s treasury.
20 Then the people shouted, and the trumpets blasted. The noise of the voices and trumpets rose higher and higher, and the thick walls of Jericho collapsed, just as God had promised. When the wall fell before them, they rushed straight ahead and took the city, 21 killing everyone—all the men and women and children, all the cattle and livestock—with their swords.
Joshua (to the two spies): 22 Go back to the house of the prostitute, and bring her out with all of those who have hidden there so that you can keep your word.
23 So they set off through the destruction, found Rahab’s house, and brought her and all she had—father and mother, brothers and sisters, and all her relatives—out of the fallen city to a place outside the camp of Israel.
24 So Jericho was destroyed completely, burned to the ground except for the precious metals and iron and bronze vessels that were put into the treasury of the Eternal’s house. 25 But Joshua spared the life of Rahab the prostitute, all her family, and all she had because she was faithful to the spies he had sent, and she lived among the Israelites from that day on.
26 When the city lay in smoke and ashes, Joshua pronounced a curse.
Joshua: May the Eternal curse anyone who ever rebuilds this city, this Jericho! If he lays new foundations, it will be over the grave of his firstborn; if he raises new gates, it will be to contain the corpse of his youngest!
27 The Eternal One had helped Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.

6 Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.
2 And the Lord said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour.
3 And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.
4 And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets.
5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him.
6 And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord.
7 And he said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let him that is armed pass on before the ark of the Lord.
8 And it came to pass, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns passed on before the Lord, and blew with the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.
9 And the armed men went before the priests that blew with the trumpets, and the rereward came after the ark, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
10 And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.
11 So the ark of the Lord compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
12 And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.
13 And seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually, and blew with the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; but the rereward came after the ark of the Lord, the priests going on, and blowing with the trumpets.
14 And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.
15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times.
16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the Lord hath given you the city.
17 And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
18 And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.
19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the Lord: they shall come into the treasury of the Lord.
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.
22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.
23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel.
24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord.
25 And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father's household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
26 And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
27 So the Lord was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.

6 Samantala, isinarang mabuti ng mga nakatira roon ang Jerico dahil sa mga Israelita. Walang makapasok o kayaʼy makalabas na mga tao sa lungsod. 2 Sinabi ng Panginoon kay Josue, “Ipapasakop ko sa inyo ang Jerico pati ang hari at mga sundalo nito. 3 Ikaw at ang mga sundalo mo ay iikot sa lungsod ng isang beses sa bawat araw, sa loob ng anim na araw. 4 Pauunahin mo sa Kahon ng Kasunduan ang pitong pari na ang bawat isa sa kanila ay may dalang trumpeta. Sa ikapitong araw, iikutan nʼyo ang lungsod ng pitong beses, kasama ng mga paring nagpapatunog ng mga trumpeta nila. 5 Kapag narinig nʼyo na ang mahabang tunog ng trumpeta nila, sisigaw kayong lahat nang malakas. Pagkatapos, guguho ang pader ng lungsod at makakapasok kayong lahat nang walang hadlang.”
6 Kaya tinawag ni Josue na anak ni Nun ang mga pari at sinabi sa mga ito, “Dalhin nʼyo ang Kahon ng Kasunduan. Mauuna ang pito sa inyo na may dalang trumpeta ang bawat isa.” 7 At sinabi rin niya sa mga tao, “Lumakad na kayo! Paikutan nʼyo ang lungsod. Ang ibang mga sundalo ay mauuna sa pitong pari na may dalang trumpeta.”
8 Ayon sa sinabi ni Josue, nauna ang pitong pari sa Kahon ng Kasunduan at pinatunog nila ang mga trumpeta nila. 9 Ang ibang mga sundalo ay nauuna sa mga pari, at may iba pang sumusunod sa Kahon ng Kasunduan. Walang hinto ang pagtunog ng mga trumpeta. 10 Pero sinabi ni Josue sa mga tao na huwag sumigaw o kayaʼy mag-ingay hanggaʼt hindi pa niya inuutos na sumigaw. 11 Ayon sa iniutos ni Josue, inikot nila sa lungsod ang Kahon ng Kasunduan ng Panginoon ng isang beses. Pagkatapos, bumalik sila sa kampo nila at doon natulog kinagabihan.
12 Kinaumagahan, maagang bumangon si Josue. Muling dinala ng mga pari ang Kahon ng Kasunduan, 13 at ang pito sa kanila ay nauna pa rin sa Kahon ng Kasunduan na nagpapatunog ng kanilang mga trumpeta. At ganoon din ang ginawa ng mga sundalo – ang iba sa kanila ay nasa unahan ng Kahon ng Kasunduan at ang ibaʼy nasa hulihan, habang patuloy na pinapatunog ang mga trumpeta. 14 Nang ikalawang araw, inikot nila ulit ang lungsod ng isang beses, at pagkatapos, bumalik sila sa kampo nila. Ganoon ang ginawa nila sa loob ng anim na araw.
15 Nang ikapitong araw, madaling-araw pa lang ay bumangon na sila at inikutan ang lungsod ng pitong beses, sa ganoon ding paraan. Iyon lang ang araw na umikot sila sa lungsod ng pitong beses. 16 Sa ikapitong beses nilang pag-ikot, pinatunog ng mga pari ang mga trumpeta nila at inutusan ni Josue ang mga tao na sumigaw. At sinabi ni Josue, “Ibinigay na sa atin ng Panginoon ang lungsod na ito! 17 Ang buong lungsod at ang lahat ng makukuha rito ay wawasakin nang lubusan bilang handog na buo sa Panginoon. Si Rahab lang na babaeng bayaran at ang buo niyang sambahayan niya ang ililigtas dahil itinago niya ang mga espiya natin. 18 At huwag kayong kukuha ng kahit anumang bagay na inihandog na nang buo sa Panginoon. Kapag kumuha kayo ng kahit ano, malilipol kayo at kayo ang magiging dahilan ng pagkawasak na darating sa Israel. 19 Ang lahat ng bagay na gawa sa pilak, ginto, tanso, o kayaʼy bakal ay ihihiwalay para sa Panginoon, at dapat itong ilagay sa taguan ng kayamanan ng Panginoon.” 20 Pinatunog ng mga pari ang mga trumpeta nila at nagsigawan ang mga Israelita nang marinig nila ito. Nawasak ang mga pader ng lungsod at lumusob sila. Nakapasok sila ng walang hadlang at nasakop nila ang lungsod. 21 Inihandog nila nang buo sa Panginoon ang lungsod sa pamamagitan ng pagpatay sa mga lalakiʼt babae, matanda at bata, at pati mga baka, tupa at mga asno. 22 Inutusan ni Josue ang dalawang espiya, “Puntahan nʼyo ang bahay ng babaeng bayaran, at palabasin nʼyo sila at ang buong pamilya niya ayon sa ipinangako nʼyo sa kanya.” 23 Kaya umalis silang dalawa at dinala nila palabas si Rahab, kasama ang mga magulang niya, mga kapatid at ang buo niyang sambahayan. Pinalabas nila ang mga ito at nanatili sa labas ng kampo ng Israel. 24 Sinunog nila ang buong lungsod at ang lahat ng nandoon maliban sa mga bagay na gawa sa pilak, ginto, tanso at bakal. Pinagkukuha nila ito para ilagay sa taguan ng kayamanan ng Panginoon. 25 Iniligtas nga ni Josue si Rahab at ang sambahayan niya dahil itinago niya ang mga lalaking inutusan ni Josue para mag-espiya sa Jerico. Hanggang ngayon, ang mga angkan niya ay naninirahan sa Israel.
26 Nang panahong iyon, binalaan ni Josue ang mga Israelita, “Isusumpa ng Panginoon ang sinumang maghahangad na itayo ulit ang lungsod ng Jerico. Mamamatay ang panganay na anak ng sinumang magtatayo ng pundasyon o ang sinumang gagawa ng mga pintuan nito.”
27 Kasama ni Josue ang Panginoon, at naging tanyag siya sa buong lupain.
