6 Yericho had completely barricaded its gates against the people of Isra’el — no one left, and no one entered. 2 Adonai said to Y’hoshua, “I have handed Yericho over to you, including its king and his warriors. 3 You are to encircle the city with all your soldiers and march around it once. Do this for six days. 4 Seven cohanim are to carry seven shofars in front of the ark. On the seventh day you are to march around the city seven times, and the cohanim will blow the shofars. 5 Then they are to blow a long blast on the shofar. On hearing the sound of the shofar, all the people are to shout as loudly as they can; and the wall of the city will fall down flat. Then the people are to go up into the city, each one straight from where he stands.”
6 Y’hoshua the son of Nun called the cohanim and told them, “Take up the ark for the covenant, and have seven cohanim carry seven shofars ahead of the ark of Adonai.” 7 To the people he said, “Move on, encircle the city, and have the army march ahead of the ark of Adonai.” 8 When Y’hoshua had spoken to the people, the seven cohanim carrying the seven shofars before Adonai passed on and blew on the shofars, with the ark for the covenant of Adonai following them. 9 The fighting men went ahead of the cohanim blowing the shofars, while the rearguard marched after the ark, with incessant blowing on the shofars. 10 Y’hoshua gave this order to the people: “Don’t shout, don’t let your voice be heard, don’t let a single word out of your mouth until the day I tell you to shout; then you will shout.”
11 So he had the ark of Adonai make a circle around the city, going around it once; then they returned to camp and stayed in the camp. 12 The next morning Y’hoshua got up early, and the cohanim took up the ark of Adonai. 13 The seven cohanim carrying the seven shofars ahead of the ark of Adonai went on, continually blowing on their shofars, with the fighting men marching ahead of them and the rearguard following after the ark of Adonai; all the while the blowing on the shofars was incessant. 14 The second day, they went around the city once and returned to camp. They did the same for six days.
15 On the seventh day, they got up early, at sunrise, and went around the city in the same way seven times. That was the only day they encircled the city seven times. 16 The seventh time, when the cohanim blew on their shofars, Y’hoshua said to the people, “Shout! because Adonai has given you the city! 17 But the city and everything in it is to be set aside for Adonai and therefore to be destroyed completely; only Rachav the prostitute is to be spared, she and everyone with her in her house, because she hid the messengers we sent. 18 So you, keep clear of everything reserved for destruction. If you bring a curse on yourselves by taking anything set aside to be destroyed, you will bring a curse on the whole camp of Isra’el and cause great distress there. 19 All the silver and gold, and all the brass and iron utensils are to be separated out for Adonai and added to the treasury of Adonai.”
20 So the people shouted, with the shofars blowing. When the people heard the sound of the shofars, the people let out a great shout; and the wall fell down flat; so that the people went up into the city, each one straight ahead of him; and they captured the city. 21 They completely destroyed everything in the city with the sword — men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.
22 Y’hoshua said to the two men who had reconnoitered the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring the woman out with all that she has, as you swore to her.” 23 The young men, the spies, went in and brought out Rachav with her father, mother, brothers and all she had; they brought out all her relatives and put them safely outside the camp of Isra’el.
24 Then they burned the city to ashes with everything in it, except for the silver, the gold and the brass and iron utensils, which they put in the treasury of the house of Adonai. 25 But Y’hoshua spared Rachav the prostitute, her father’s household and everything she had; and she has continued living with Isra’el from then until now; because she hid the messengers Y’hoshua had sent to reconnoiter Yericho. 26 Y’hoshua then made the people take this oath: “A curse before Adonai on anyone who rises up and rebuilds this city of Yericho: he will lay its foundation with the loss of his firstborn son and set up its gates with the loss of his youngest son.” 27 So Adonai was with Y’hoshua, and people heard about him throughout the land.

6 De poorten van Jericho werden zorgvuldig gesloten gehouden, omdat de inwoners bang waren voor de Israëlieten, niemand mocht naar binnen of naar buiten. 2 Maar de Here zei tegen Jozua: ‘Jericho, zijn koning en al zijn machtige strijders zijn al verslagen, want Ik heb hen in uw macht gegeven! 3,4 Uw hele leger moet zes dagen lang één keer per dag om de stad heen trekken, gevolgd door zeven priesters die voor de ark uit lopen en ieder een ramshoorn dragen. Op de zevende dag moet u zevenmaal rond de stad trekken, terwijl de priesters op hun ramshoornen blazen. 5 Wanneer zij dan een lang, hard hoorngeschal laten horen, moet het hele volk hard juichen, waarna de muren van de stad zullen instorten. Daarna moet u van alle kanten de stad binnenvallen.’
6-9 Jozua riep daarop de priesters bijeen en gaf hun de nodige bevelen. De gewapende mannen moesten de stoet aanvoeren, gevolgd door de zeven priesters die de ramshoornen bliezen. Achter hen moesten dan de priesters lopen die de ark droegen, gevolgd door de achterhoede. 10 Jozua beval het volk: ‘Er moet volledige stilte in acht worden genomen. Laat niemand zijn mond opendoen tot ik u zeg dat u moet juichen, juich dan!’ 11 De ark werd die dag rond de stad gedragen, waarna iedereen terugkeerde naar het kamp om er de nacht door te brengen.
12-14 Toen het de volgende morgen licht werd, maakten zij weer een rondgang. Daarna keerde iedereen terug naar het kamp. Dit deden zij zes dagen lang.
15 Bij het aanbreken van de zevende dag gingen zij weer naar de stad, maar nu liepen zij er zevenmaal omheen in plaats van eenmaal. 16 Bij de zevende keer lieten de priesters de ramshoorns klinken en Jozua riep tot het volk: ‘Juich, de Here heeft ons de stad gegeven!’
17 Vóór die tijd had Jozua zijn mensen gezegd: ‘De stad en alles wat daarin is, moet voor de Here worden vernietigd, maar alleen de prostituee Rachab en allen die in haar huis zijn, mogen in leven blijven omdat zij de spionnen heeft beschermd. 18 Vergrijp u niet aan al wat voor de Here vernietigd wordt. Als u zich iets als buit toeëigent, zal dit rampzalige gevolgen hebben voor Israël.’ 19 Alle zilveren, gouden, koperen en ijzeren voorwerpen moeten aan de Here worden gegeven en naar zijn schatkamer worden gebracht, al het overige moet worden vernietigd. 20 Toen de ramshoornen schalden, juichte het volk en daarop stortte de stadsmuur in. De Israëlieten stroomden van alle kanten de stad binnen en namen haar in. 21 Zij vernietigden alles: mannen en vrouwen, jong en oud, ossen, schapen, ezels, letterlijk alles. 22 Toen zei Jozua tegen de twee spionnen: ‘Kom uw belofte na. Zorg dat de prostituee en haar familieleden in veiligheid worden gebracht.’ 23 De jongemannen gingen naar het huis en brachten Rachab, haar ouders, broers en andere familieleden in veiligheid. Er werd een regeling voor hen getroffen dat zij buiten het kamp van de Israëlieten mochten verblijven. 24 Daarna legden de Israëlieten de hele stad in de as. Alleen het goud, het zilver en de koperen en ijzeren voorwerpen werden bewaard in de schatkamer van de Here.
25 Zo spaarde Jozua de prostituee Rachab en al haar familieleden die bij haar in huis waren. Zij wonen nog steeds bij de Israëlieten omdat zij de spionnen die Jozua naar Jericho had gestuurd, had verborgen. 26 Jozua sprak daarna een vreselijke vervloeking uit over iedereen die Jericho zou proberen te herbouwen. Het leggen van het fundament zou het leven van zijn oudste zoon kosten en als hij de poorten overeind zou zetten, zou dat gaan ten koste van zijn jongste zoon.
27 Zo hielp de Here Jozua en hij werd overal beroemd.

6 耶利哥人害怕以色列人，就把所有的城門都關得緊緊的，無人出入。 2 耶和華對約書亞說：「看啊，我已經把耶利哥、耶利哥王及其英勇的戰士都交在你手中了。 3 你所有的軍隊要每天繞城一圈，連續六天， 4 讓七個祭司拿著七個羊角號走在約櫃前面。到了第七天，你們要繞城七圈，祭司要吹響號角。 5 當你們聽到號角長鳴時，所有的人都要高聲吶喊，城牆就會坍塌，眾人便可以直衝上去。」 6 嫩的兒子約書亞便召來祭司，對他們說：「你們抬起約櫃，派七位祭司拿著七個羊角號走在耶和華的約櫃前面。」 7 他又對民眾說：「你們要前去繞著城牆走，軍隊要走在耶和華的約櫃前面。」
8 聽完約書亞的吩咐，七個祭司便在耶和華面前拿著羊角號邊走邊吹，耶和華的約櫃就跟在他們後面， 9 軍隊走在吹號的祭司前面，殿後軍隊跟在約櫃後面。祭司一路上吹著號角。 10 約書亞吩咐民眾：「在我下令叫你們吶喊以前，誰也不許作聲，一句話也不許說。」 11 這樣，約書亞使耶和華的約櫃繞城一圈，然後眾人各自回營休息。
12 第二天，約書亞一早起來，祭司又抬起耶和華的約櫃。 13 七個祭司拿著七個羊角號走在耶和華的約櫃前面，一邊走一邊吹角。軍隊走在祭司前面，殿後軍隊跟在耶和華的約櫃後面。 14 這一天他們又繞城一圈，然後各自回營。六天都是這樣。
15 第七天黎明時分，他們起來照樣繞城，只是這一天他們繞城走了七次。 16 走到第七次，祭司吹響了號角，約書亞吩咐民眾說：「吶喊吧！因為耶和華已經將這城交給你們了。 17 要把這座城和城裡所有的東西毀滅，作為獻給耶和華之物。只有妓女喇合和她家中所有的人可以活命，因為她曾把我們派去的探子隱藏起來。 18 你們要小心，不可私拿任何應當毀滅的東西，免得你們自取滅亡，並給以色列全營帶來災禍。 19 要把所有的金銀和銅鐵器皿分別出來獻給耶和華，放進耶和華的庫房裡。」 20 於是，民眾聽到號角聲時，就高聲呐喊，城牆便坍塌了。民眾便一擁而上，佔領了耶利哥城， 21 用刀殺了城裡所有的男女老少、牛羊和驢。
22 約書亞對那兩個探子說：「你們到那個妓女家裡，照著你們向她起過的誓，把她和她的家人都帶出來。」 23 於是，那兩個年輕探子便進去，把喇合和她的父母、兄弟及所有的親人都帶出來，安置在以色列人的營外。 24 以色列人燒毀全城和城內一切的東西，只把金銀和銅鐵器皿放在耶和華的庫房裡。 25 約書亞因為妓女喇合把兩個探子隱藏起來，就饒了她和她一家人的性命。他們至今仍住在以色列人當中。
26 之後，約書亞起誓說：
「重建耶利哥城的人必定在耶和華面前受咒詛，
他立地基的時候必死長子，
建城門的時候必喪幼子。」
27 耶和華與約書亞同在，他的聲名傳遍各地。
