6 Now the gates of Jericho(A) were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.
2 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered(B) Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns(C) in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.(D) 5 When you hear them sound a long blast(E) on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout;(F) then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”
6 So Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant of the Lord and have seven priests carry trumpets in front of it.”(G) 7 And he ordered the army, “Advance(H)! March around the city, with an armed guard going ahead of the ark(I) of the Lord.”
8 When Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests carrying the seven trumpets before the Lord went forward, blowing their trumpets, and the ark of the Lord’s covenant followed them. 9 The armed guard marched ahead of the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard(J) followed the ark. All this time the trumpets were sounding. 10 But Joshua had commanded the army, “Do not give a war cry, do not raise your voices, do not say a word until the day I tell you to shout. Then shout!(K)” 11 So he had the ark of the Lord carried around the city, circling it once. Then the army returned to camp and spent the night there.
12 Joshua got up early the next morning and the priests took up the ark of the Lord. 13 The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets went forward, marching before the ark of the Lord and blowing the trumpets. The armed men went ahead of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the Lord, while the trumpets kept sounding. 14 So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
15 On the seventh day, they got up at daybreak and marched around the city seven times in the same manner, except that on that day they circled the city seven times.(L) 16 The seventh time around, when the priests sounded the trumpet blast, Joshua commanded the army, “Shout! For the Lord has given you the city!(M) 17 The city and all that is in it are to be devoted[a](N) to the Lord. Only Rahab the prostitute(O) and all who are with her in her house shall be spared, because she hid(P) the spies we sent. 18 But keep away from the devoted things,(Q) so that you will not bring about your own destruction by taking any of them. Otherwise you will make the camp of Israel liable to destruction(R) and bring trouble(S) on it. 19 All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron(T) are sacred to the Lord and must go into his treasury.”
20 When the trumpets sounded,(U) the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout,(V) the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.(W) 21 They devoted(X) the city to the Lord and destroyed(Y) with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.
22 Joshua said to the two men(Z) who had spied out(AA) the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house and bring her out and all who belong to her, in accordance with your oath to her.(AB)” 23 So the young men who had done the spying went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother, her brothers and sisters and all who belonged to her.(AC) They brought out her entire family and put them in a place outside the camp of Israel.
24 Then they burned the whole city(AD) and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron(AE) into the treasury of the Lord’s house.(AF) 25 But Joshua spared(AG) Rahab the prostitute,(AH) with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho(AI)—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.
26 At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:(AJ) “Cursed(AK) before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:
“At the cost of his firstborn son
he will lay its foundations;
at the cost of his youngest
he will set up its gates.”(AL)
27 So the Lord was with Joshua,(AM) and his fame spread(AN) throughout the land.

1 Now Jericho was [a]shut up, and [b]closed, [c]because of the children of Israel, none might go out nor enter in.
2 And the Lord said unto Joshua, Behold, I have given into thine hand Jericho and the king thereof, and the strong men of war.
3 All ye therefore that be men of war, shall compass the city, in going round about the city [d]once: thus shall you do six days:
4 And seven Priests shall bear seven trumpets of [e]rams’ horns before the Ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the Priests shall blow with the trumpets,
5 And when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout: then shall the wall of the city fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up, every man straight before him.
6 ¶ Then Joshua the son of Nun called the Priests and said unto them, Take up the Ark of the Covenant, and let seven Priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the Ark of the Lord.
7 But he said unto the people, [f]Go and compass the city: and let him that is armed go forth before the Ark of the Lord.
8 ¶ And when Joshua had spoken unto the people, the seven priests bare the seven trumpets of rams’ horns, and went forth before the Ark of the Lord, and blew with the trumpets, and the ark of the Covenant of the Lord followed them.
9 ¶ And the men of arms went before the priests and blew the trumpets: then the [g]gathering host came after the Ark, and they went and blew the trumpets.
10 (Now Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, neither make any noise with your voice, neither shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day that I say unto you, Shout, then shall ye shout.)
11 So the Ark of the Lord compassed the city, and went about it [h]once: then they returned into the host, and lodged in the camp.
12 And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the Priests bare the Ark of the Lord:
13 Also seven Priests bare seven trumpets of rams’ horns, and went before the Ark of the Lord, and going blew with the trumpets: and the men of arms went before them, but the [i]gathering host came after the Ark of the Lord, as they went and blew the trumpets.
14 And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the host: thus they did six days.
15 And when the seventh day came, they rose early, even with the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner [j]seven times: only that day they compassed the city seven times.
16 And when the Priests had blown the trumpets the seventh time, Joshua said unto the people, Shout: for the Lord hath given you the city.
17 And the city shall be [k]an execrable thing, both it, and all that are therein, unto the Lord: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she, and all that are with her in the house: for (A)she hid the messengers that we sent.
18 Notwithstanding, be ye ware of the execrable thing, lest ye make yourselves execrable, and in taking of the execrable thing, make also the host of Israel (B)execrable, and trouble it.
19 But all silver, and gold, and vessels of brass, and iron shall be [l]consecrate unto the Lord, and shall come into the Lord’s treasury.
20 So the people shouted, when they had blown trumpets: for when the people had heard the sound of the trumpets, they shouted with a great shout: and the (C)wall fell down flat: so the people went up into the city, every man straight before him: and they took the city.
21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the cities both man and woman, young, and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass with the edge of the sword.
22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot’s house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, (D)as ye swore to her.
23 So the young men that were spies, went in and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had: also they brought out all her family, and put them [m]without the host of Israel.
24 After, they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein: only the silver and the gold, and the vessels of brass and iron, they put unto the treasure of the [n]house of the Lord.
25 So Joshua saved Rahab the harlot, and her father’s household, and all that she had, and she [o]dwelt in Israel, even unto this day, because she had hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
26 ¶ And Joshua swore at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the Lord, that riseth up, and buildeth the city Jericho: [p]he shall lay the foundation thereof in his eldest son, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.
27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and he was famous through all the world.

«Voy a poner en tus manos a Jericó, a su rey y a sus mejores soldados. 3 Tú y tus soldados marcharán alrededor de la ciudad una vez al día, durante seis días. 4 Delante del cofre del pacto irán siete sacerdotes, cada uno de ellos con una trompeta. El séptimo día todos marcharán siete veces alrededor de la ciudad, mientras los sacerdotes tocan sus trompetas. 5 Después de eso, ellos darán un toque largo. En cuanto lo oigan, todos los hombres gritarán con fuerza y los muros de la ciudad se vendrán abajo; entonces cada uno atacará la ciudad sin dar marcha atrás».

8-9 Tal como Josué lo había ordenado, primero avanzó un grupo especial de hombres armados. Siguieron después los sacerdotes que tocaban las trompetas sin parar. Después se pusieron en marcha los sacerdotes que llevaban el cofre del pacto, y cerraba la marcha otro grupo de hombres armados. 10 Josué les había dicho a sus hombres: «Vayan en silencio, no se dejen oír. Pero cuando les diga que griten, ustedes gritarán con todas sus fuerzas».
11 Este grupo de hombres llevó el cofre del pacto alrededor de la ciudad, y después volvió al campamento para pasar la noche. 12 A la mañana siguiente Josué se levantó temprano, y mandó a los sacerdotes que volvieran a llevar el cofre del pacto. 13 Primero salió el grupo especial de hombres armados, seguido de los siete sacerdotes con sus trompetas. Después de ellos salieron los sacerdotes que llevaban el cofre del pacto y, finalmente, el otro grupo de hombres armados. 14 Ese segundo día marcharon una sola vez alrededor de la ciudad, y volvieron al campamento. Hicieron lo mismo durante seis días. 15 El séptimo día se levantaron de madrugada y volvieron a marchar alrededor de la ciudad, sólo que ese día lo hicieron siete veces. 16 En la séptima vuelta, mientras los sacerdotes tocaban sus trompetas, Josué dio la orden:
«¡Griten con todas sus fuerzas! ¡Dios nos ha entregado la ciudad! 17 La ciudad y todos sus habitantes serán destruidos por completo, como una ofrenda para Dios. Pero acuérdense de no hacerles daño ni a Rahab ni a su familia, porque ella escondió a los espías que enviamos. 18 No toquen nada de lo que hay que destruir. Si lo hacen, causarán una terrible destrucción en nuestro campamento. 19 Toda la plata, y el oro, el bronce y el hierro serán dedicados a Dios, y deben ponerse con sus tesoros».
20 Cuando los sacerdotes tocaron sus trompetas, los soldados gritaron con todas sus fuerzas y los muros se derrumbaron. Entonces todo el ejército entró en la ciudad, y cada soldado la atacó hasta conquistarla. 21 Con sus espadas mataron a todos los hombres, mujeres, niños y ancianos. Rahab y su familia se salvan
22 Josué les había dicho a los dos espías: «Vayan a la casa de Rahab y pónganla a salvo, junto con toda su familia, tal como se lo prometieron».
23 Los dos espías fueron a buscar a Rahab y a todos sus familiares, y los llevaron a un lugar seguro cerca del campamento de los israelitas. 24 Mientras tanto, los soldados incendiaron la ciudad y quemaron todo, pero se llevaron la plata, el oro y las vasijas de bronce y de hierro, y todo esto lo pusieron junto con los tesoros de Dios. 25 Los únicos que se salvaron fueron Rahab y todos los de su casa. Josué la salvó porque ella escondió a los dos espías que él había enviado a Jericó. Hasta el día de hoy hay descendientes de Rahab que viven en Israel.
26 Después de la destrucción de Jericó, Josué les advirtió a los israelitas: «Nadie deberá edificar de nuevo la ciudad de Jericó. Cualquiera que trate de hacerlo caerá bajo un terrible castigo de Dios. Si alguien intenta reconstruirla, Dios hará que mueran todos los hijos de esa persona».
27 Dios ayudó a Josué en todo lo que hizo, y todo el país se enteró de sus victorias.
