26 (A)On that occasion Joshua imposed the oath: Cursed before the Lord be the man who attempts to rebuild this city, Jericho. At the cost of his firstborn will he lay its foundation, and at the cost of his youngest son will he set up its gates.[a]

27 Thus the Lord was with Joshua so that his fame spread throughout the land.(B)

Joshua Curses the Rebuilding of Jericho

26 Then Joshua made everyone[a] take the following oath at that time. He said:

“Cursed in the presence of the Lord is the man
    who restores and rebuilds this city of Jericho!
He will lay its foundation at the cost of[b] his firstborn,
    and at the cost of[c] his youngest he will set up its gates.”

27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and as a result, Joshua’s[d] reputation spread throughout the land.
