Joshua 5:3-5
New English Translation
3 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at the Hill of the Foreskins.[a] 4 This is why Joshua had to circumcise them: All the men old enough to fight when they left Egypt died on the journey through the wilderness after they left Egypt.[b] 5 Now[c] all the men[d] who left were circumcised, but all the sons[e] born on the journey through the wilderness after they left Egypt were uncircumcised.

- Joshua 5:3 tn Or “Gibeath Haaraloth.” This name means “Hill of the Foreskins.” Many modern translations simply give the Hebrew name, although an explanatory note giving the meaning of the name is often included.sn The name given to the place, Hill of the Foreskins was an obvious reminder of this important event.

New International Version
3 So Joshua made flint knives and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath Haaraloth.[a]
4 Now this is why he did so: All those who came out of Egypt—all the men of military age(A)—died in the wilderness on the way after leaving Egypt.(B) 5 All the people that came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness during the journey from Egypt had not.
