Territory of Judah

15 Now (A)the lot for the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families [a]reached the (B)border of Edom, southward to the (C)wilderness of Zin at the extreme south. 2 Their south border was from the lower end of the Salt Sea, from the bay that turns to the south. 3 Then it proceeded southward to the ascent of Akrabbim and continued to Zin, then went up by the south of Kadesh-barnea and continued to Hezron, and went up to Addar and turned about to Karka. 4 It (D)continued to Azmon and proceeded to the [b](E)brook of Egypt, and the [c]border ended at the sea. This shall be your south border. 5 The (F)east border was the Salt Sea, as far as the [d]mouth of the Jordan. And the (G)border of the north side was from the bay of the sea at the [e]mouth of the Jordan. 6 Then the border went up to Beth-hoglah, and continued on the north of Beth-arabah, and the border went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben. 7 The border went up to Debir from (H)the valley of Achor, and turned northward toward Gilgal which is opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is on the south of the valley; and the border continued to the waters of En-shemesh and [f]it ended at En-rogel. 8 Then the border went up the valley of Ben-hinnom to the slope of the (I)Jebusite on the south (that is, Jerusalem); and the border went up to the top of the mountain which is before the valley of Hinnom to the west, which is at the end of the valley of Rephaim toward the north. 9 From the top of the mountain the border curved to the spring of the waters of Nephtoah and proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, then the border curved to (J)Baalah (that is, (K)Kiriath-jearim). 10 The border turned about from Baalah westward to Mount Seir, and continued to the slope of Mount Jearim on the north (that is, Chesalon), and went down to Beth-shemesh and continued through (L)Timnah. 11 The border proceeded to the side of Ekron northward. Then the border curved to Shikkeron and continued to Mount Baalah and proceeded to Jabneel, and the [g]border ended at the sea. 12 The west border was (M)at the Great Sea, even its [h]coastline. This is the border around the sons of Judah according to their families.

13 Now (N)he gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh a portion (O)among the sons of Judah, according to the [i]command of the Lord to Joshua, namely, [j]Kiriath-arba, Arba being the father of Anak (that is, Hebron). 14 (P)Caleb [k]drove out from there the three (Q)sons of Anak: Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai, the children of Anak. 15 Then (R)he went up from there against the inhabitants of Debir; now the name of Debir formerly was Kiriath-sepher. 16 And Caleb said, “The one who [l]attacks Kiriath-sepher and captures it, [m]I will give him Achsah my daughter as a wife.” 17 (S)Othniel the son of Kenaz, the brother of Caleb, captured it; so he gave him Achsah his daughter as a wife. 18 (T)It came about that when she came to him, she persuaded him to ask her father for a field. So she alighted from the donkey, and Caleb said to her, “What do you want?” 19 Then she said, “Give me a blessing; since you have given me the land of the [n]Negev, give me also springs of water.” So he gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the sons of Judah according to their families.

21 Now the cities at the extremity of the tribe of the sons of Judah toward the border of Edom in the south were Kabzeel and (U)Eder and Jagur, 22 and Kinah and Dimonah and Adadah, 23 and Kedesh and Hazor and Ithnan, 24 Ziph and Telem and Bealoth, 25 and Hazor-hadattah and Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor), 26 Amam and Shema and Moladah, 27 and Hazar-gaddah and Heshmon and Beth-pelet, 28 and Hazar-shual and (V)Beersheba and Biziothiah, 29 Baalah and Iim and Ezem, 30 and Eltolad and Chesil and Hormah, 31 and (W)Ziklag and Madmannah and Sansannah, 32 and Lebaoth and Shilhim and Ain and Rimmon; in all, twenty-nine cities with their villages.

33 In the lowland: (X)Eshtaol and Zorah and Ashnah, 34 and Zanoah and En-gannim, Tappuah and Enam, 35 Jarmuth and (Y)Adullam, Socoh and Azekah, 36 and Shaaraim and Adithaim and Gederah and Gederothaim; fourteen cities with their villages.

37 Zenan and Hadashah and Migdal-gad, 38 and Dilean and Mizpeh and Joktheel, 39 (Z)Lachish and Bozkath and Eglon, 40 and Cabbon and Lahmas and Chitlish, 41 and Gederoth, Beth-dagon and Naamah and Makkedah; sixteen cities with their villages.

42 Libnah and Ether and Ashan, 43 and Iphtah and Ashnah and Nezib, 44 and Keilah and Achzib and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.

45 Ekron, with its towns and its villages; 46 from Ekron even to the sea, all that were by the [o]side of Ashdod, with their villages.

47 Ashdod, its towns and its villages; Gaza, its towns and its villages; as far as (AA)the [p]brook of Egypt and the Great Sea, even its [q]coastline.

48 In the hill country: Shamir and Jattir and Socoh, 49 and Dannah and Kiriath-sannah (that is, Debir), 50 and Anab and Eshtemoh and Anim, 51 and Goshen and Holon and Giloh; eleven cities with their villages.

52 Arab and Dumah and Eshan, 53 and Janum and Beth-tappuah and Aphekah, 54 and Humtah and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior; nine cities with their villages.

55 Maon, Carmel and Ziph and Juttah, 56 and Jezreel and Jokdeam and Zanoah, 57 Kain, Gibeah and Timnah; ten cities with their villages.

58 Halhul, Beth-zur and Gedor, 59 and Maarath and Beth-anoth and Eltekon; six cities with their villages.

60 Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah; two cities with their villages.

61 In the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin and Secacah, 62 and Nibshan and the City of Salt and Engedi; six cities with their villages.

63 Now as for the (AB)Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the sons of Judah could not [r]drive them out; so the Jebusites live with the sons of Judah at Jerusalem until this day.

15 El territorio que tocó en suerte a la tribu de Judá, por clanes, lindaba con la frontera de Edom, en el extremo meridional del desierto de Sin. 2 Su límite meridional partía de la lengua o extremo sur del mar de la Sal; 3 luego se dirigía por el sur de la cuesta de Acrabín, pasaba hacia Sin y subía por el sur de Cadés Barnea; pasando por Jesrón, subía hacia Adar y volvía hacia Carcá; 4 pasaba por Asmón, se dirigía hacia el torrente de Egipto y terminaba en el mar. Esa será la frontera de ustedes por el sur. 5 Por el este, el territorio limitaba con el mar de la Sal hasta la desembocadura del Jordán. El límite septentrional partía de la lengua de mar en la que desemboca el Jordán; 6 luego llegaba a Bet Joglá, pasaba por el norte de Bet Arabá y subía hasta la Peña de Bohán, hijo de Rubén; 7 continuaba subiendo desde el valle de Acor hasta Debir y volvía hacia el norte hasta Guilgal, frente a la cuesta de Adumín, que está al sur del Torrente. El límite pasaba junto a las aguas de En Semes y venía a salir a la fuente de Roguel. 8 De allí subía por el valle de Ben Hinón, en el flanco sur del Jebuseo, es decir, por Jerusalén; subía luego por el oeste hasta la cima del monte frente al valle de Hinón, en el extremo norte del valle de los refaítas. 9 A continuación torcía desde la cumbre del monte hacia los manantiales de Neftoaj y seguía en dirección a las ciudades del monte Efrón torciendo hacia Baalá, es decir, Quiriat Jearín. 10 Desde Baalá, el límite doblaba por el oeste hacia el monte Seír y, pasando por la vertiente norte del monte Jearín, o sea, Quesalón, bajaba hasta Bet Semes, llegando a Timná. 11 Luego se dirigía hacia el norte de Ecrón, doblaba hacia Sicarón, pasaba por el monte Baalá y salía a Jabneel. Conquista de Hebrón y Debir

13 A Caleb, hijo de Jefuné, se le asignó una parte entre los descendientes de Judá, tal como había mandado el Señor a Josué: Quiriat Arbá, la ciudad del padre de Anac, es decir, Hebrón. 14 Caleb expulsó de allí a los tres hijos de Anac: Sesay, Ajimán y Talmay, descendientes de Anac. 15 Desde allí se dirigió contra los habitantes de Debir, que antes era conocida como Quiriat Séfer. 16 Caleb prometió dar por esposa a su hija Axá a quien derrotara y conquistara a Qiryat Séfer. 17 El que la conquistó fue Otoniel, hijo de Quenaz, hermano de Caleb; así que este le dio por esposa a su hija Axá. 18 Cuando Axá se dirigía a casa de su marido, este la instigó a que pidiera a su padre un campo. Al ver que su hija se apeaba del asno, Caleb le preguntó:

— ¿Qué quieres?

19 Ella respondió:

— Hazme un regalo; ya que me has asignado el desierto del Négueb, proporcióname también manantiales.

Y él le dio los manantiales de arriba y los de abajo.

20 Esta fue la heredad de la tribu de Judá, por clanes.

En el Négueb: Cabsel, Éder, Jagur, 22 Quiná, Dimoná, Adadá, 23 Cadés, Jasor, Jitnán, 24 Zif, Telen, Bealot, 25 Jasor Jadatá, Queriyot Jesrón (o sea, Jasor), 26 Amán, Semá, Moladá, 27 Jasar Gadá, Jesmón, Bet Pélet, 28 Jasar Sual, Berseba con sus aldeas, 29 Balá, Iyín, Esen, 30 Eltolad, Quesil, Jormá, 31 Siclag, Madmaná, Sansaná, 32 Lebaot, Siljín, y En Rimón. En total, veintinueve ciudades con sus aldeas.

33 En la Sefela: Estaol, Sorá, Asná, 34 Zanoaj, En Ganín, Tapuaj, Enán, 35 Jarmut, Adulán, Socó, Acecá, 36 Saráin, Aditáin, Guederá y Guederotáin: catorce ciudades con sus aldeas. 37 Senán, Jadasá, Migdal Gad, 38 Dilán, Mispé, Joqtel, 39 Laquis, Boscat, Eglón, 40 Cabón, Lajmás, Quitlís, 41 Guederot, Bet Dagón, Naamá y Maquedá: dieciséis ciudades con sus aldeas. 42 Libná, Éter, Asán, 43 Jiftaj, Asná, Nesib, 44 Queilá, Aczib y Maresá: nueve ciudades con sus aldeas. 45 Ecrón con sus filiales y aldeas. 46 Desde Ecrón hasta el mar, todas las poblaciones que están cerca de Asdod con sus aldeas. 47 Asdod con sus filiales y aldeas, Gaza con sus filiales y aldeas, hasta el torrente de Egipto, y las ciudades costeras del mar Grande.

48 En la montaña: Samir, Jatir, Socó, 49 Daná, Quiriat Saná (o sea, Debir), 50 Anab, Estemoa, Anín, 51 Gosen, Jolón y Guiló: once ciudades y sus aldeas. 52 Arab, Dumá, Esán, 53 Janín, Bet Tapuaj, Afecá, 54 Juntá, Quiriat Arbá (o sea, Hebrón) y Sior: nueve ciudades y sus aldeas. 55 Maón, Carmel, Cif, Jutá, 56 Jezrael, Jocdeán, Zanoj, 57 Hacáin, Guibeá y Timná: diez ciudades con sus aldeas. 58 Jaljul, Bet Sur, Guedor, 59 Maarat, Bet Anot y Eltecón: seis ciudades con sus aldeas. 60 Quiriat Baal, que es Quiriat Jearín, y Rabá: dos ciudades con sus aldeas.

61 En el desierto: Bet Arabá, Midín, Secacá, 62 Nibsán, la ciudad de la Sal y Enguedí: seis ciudades con sus aldeas.

63 Pero los descendientes de Judá no lograron expulsar a los jebuseos que ocupaban Jerusalén. Por eso los jebuseos viven todavía hoy en Jerusalén, en medio de Judá.

Allotment for Judah(A)

15 The allotment for the tribe of Judah, according to its clans, extended down to the territory of Edom,(B) to the Desert of Zin(C) in the extreme south.(D)

2 Their southern boundary started from the bay at the southern end of the Dead Sea,(E) 3 crossed south of Scorpion Pass,(F) continued on to Zin and went over to the south of Kadesh Barnea.(G) Then it ran past Hezron up to Addar and curved around to Karka. 4 It then passed along to Azmon(H) and joined the Wadi of Egypt,(I) ending at the Mediterranean Sea. This is their[a] southern boundary.

5 The eastern boundary(J) is the Dead Sea(K) as far as the mouth of the Jordan.

The northern boundary(L) started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan, 6 went up to Beth Hoglah(M) and continued north of Beth Arabah(N) to the Stone of Bohan(O) son of Reuben. 7 The boundary then went up to Debir(P) from the Valley of Achor(Q) and turned north to Gilgal,(R) which faces the Pass of Adummim south of the gorge. It continued along to the waters of En Shemesh(S) and came out at En Rogel.(T) 8 Then it ran up the Valley of Ben Hinnom(U) along the southern slope of the Jebusite(V) city (that is, Jerusalem(W)). From there it climbed to the top of the hill west of the Hinnom Valley(X) at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.(Y) 9 From the hilltop the boundary headed toward the spring of the waters of Nephtoah,(Z) came out at the towns of Mount Ephron and went down toward Baalah(AA) (that is, Kiriath Jearim).(AB) 10 Then it curved westward from Baalah(AC) to Mount Seir,(AD) ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Kesalon), continued down to Beth Shemesh(AE) and crossed to Timnah.(AF) 11 It went to the northern slope of Ekron,(AG) turned toward Shikkeron, passed along to Mount Baalah(AH) and reached Jabneel.(AI) The boundary ended at the sea.

12 The western boundary is the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.(AJ)

These are the boundaries around the people of Judah by their clans.

13 In accordance with the Lord’s command to him, Joshua gave to Caleb(AK) son of Jephunneh a portion in Judah—Kiriath Arba(AL), that is, Hebron.(AM) (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)(AN) 14 From Hebron Caleb drove out the three Anakites(AO)—Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai,(AP) the sons of Anak.(AQ) 15 From there he marched against the people living in Debir (formerly called Kiriath Sepher). 16 And Caleb said, “I will give my daughter Aksah(AR) in marriage to the man who attacks and captures Kiriath Sepher.” 17 Othniel(AS) son of Kenaz, Caleb’s brother, took it; so Caleb gave his daughter Aksah to him in marriage.

18 One day when she came to Othniel, she urged him[b] to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What can I do for you?”

19 She replied, “Do me a special favor. Since you have given me land in the Negev,(AT) give me also springs of water.” So Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs.(AU)

20 This is the inheritance of the tribe of Judah, according to its clans:

21 The southernmost towns of the tribe of Judah in the Negev(AV) toward the boundary of Edom were:

Kabzeel,(AW) Eder,(AX) Jagur, 22 Kinah, Dimonah, Adadah, 23 Kedesh,(AY) Hazor,(AZ) Ithnan, 24 Ziph,(BA) Telem, Bealoth, 25 Hazor Hadattah, Kerioth Hezron (that is, Hazor),(BB) 26 Amam, Shema, Moladah,(BC) 27 Hazar Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth Pelet, 28 Hazar Shual,(BD) Beersheba,(BE) Biziothiah, 29 Baalah,(BF) Iyim, Ezem,(BG) 30 Eltolad,(BH) Kesil, Hormah,(BI) 31 Ziklag,(BJ) Madmannah,(BK) Sansannah, 32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain(BL) and Rimmon(BM)—a total of twenty-nine towns and their villages.

33 In the western foothills:

Eshtaol,(BN) Zorah,(BO) Ashnah,(BP) 34 Zanoah,(BQ) En Gannim,(BR) Tappuah,(BS) Enam, 35 Jarmuth,(BT) Adullam,(BU) Sokoh,(BV) Azekah,(BW) 36 Shaaraim,(BX) Adithaim and Gederah(BY) (or Gederothaim)[c]—fourteen towns and their villages.

37 Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal Gad, 38 Dilean, Mizpah,(BZ) Joktheel,(CA) 39 Lachish,(CB) Bozkath,(CC) Eglon,(CD) 40 Kabbon, Lahmas, Kitlish, 41 Gederoth,(CE) Beth Dagon,(CF) Naamah and Makkedah(CG)—sixteen towns and their villages.

42 Libnah,(CH) Ether, Ashan,(CI) 43 Iphtah, Ashnah,(CJ) Nezib, 44 Keilah,(CK) Akzib(CL) and Mareshah(CM)—nine towns and their villages.

45 Ekron,(CN) with its surrounding settlements and villages; 46 west of Ekron, all that were in the vicinity of Ashdod,(CO) together with their villages; 47 Ashdod,(CP) its surrounding settlements and villages; and Gaza, its settlements and villages, as far as the Wadi of Egypt(CQ) and the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.(CR)

48 In the hill country:

Shamir,(CS) Jattir,(CT) Sokoh,(CU) 49 Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (that is, Debir(CV)), 50 Anab,(CW) Eshtemoh,(CX) Anim, 51 Goshen,(CY) Holon(CZ) and Giloh(DA)—eleven towns and their villages.

52 Arab, Dumah,(DB) Eshan, 53 Janim, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah, 54 Humtah, Kiriath Arba(DC) (that is, Hebron) and Zior—nine towns and their villages.

55 Maon,(DD) Carmel,(DE) Ziph,(DF) Juttah,(DG) 56 Jezreel,(DH) Jokdeam, Zanoah,(DI) 57 Kain, Gibeah(DJ) and Timnah(DK)—ten towns and their villages.

58 Halhul, Beth Zur,(DL) Gedor,(DM) 59 Maarath, Beth Anoth and Eltekon—six towns and their villages.[d]

60 Kiriath Baal(DN) (that is, Kiriath Jearim(DO)) and Rabbah(DP)—two towns and their villages.

61 In the wilderness:(DQ)

Beth Arabah,(DR) Middin, Sekakah, 62 Nibshan, the City of Salt and En Gedi(DS)—six towns and their villages.

63 Judah could not(DT) dislodge the Jebusites(DU), who were living in Jerusalem;(DV) to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.(DW)
