16 Thus Joshua took all that land: (A)the hill country and all the [a]Negev, all that land of Goshen, the [b]Shephelah, (B)the Arabah, the hill country of Israel and its [c]Shephelah 17 from (C)Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir, even as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon [d]at the foot of Mount Hermon. And he captured (D)all their kings and struck them down and put them to death. 18 Joshua waged war a long time with all these kings. 19 There was not a city which made peace with the sons of Israel except (E)the Hivites living in Gibeon; they took them all in battle. 20 (F)For it was of Yahweh to strengthen their hearts, to meet Israel in battle in order that he might (G)devote them to destruction, that they might [e]receive no mercy, but that he might destroy them, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses.

21 Then Joshua came at that time and cut off (H)the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab and from all the hill country of Judah and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. 22 There were no Anakim left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in (I)Gath, and in (J)Ashdod some remained. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Yahweh had spoken to Moses, and (K)Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. (L)Thus the land was quiet from war.

16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same; 17 from [a]mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death. 18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle. 20 For it was of Jehovah to [b]harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might [c]utterly destroy them, that they [d]might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

21 And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua [e]utterly destroyed them with their cities. 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.
