16 But three days after they had made an agreement with them, they heard that they were neighbors who lived in their land. 17 Then the people of Israel left that place and came to their cities on the third day. Their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth and Kiriath-jearim. 18 But the people of Israel did not kill them because the leaders of the people had made a promise to them by the Lord the God of Israel. All the people complained against the leaders.

16 Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors, living near(A) them. 17 So the Israelites set out and on the third day came to their cities: Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth(B) and Kiriath Jearim.(C) 18 But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath(D) to them by the Lord, the God of Israel.
