¹¹ So our elders and all the inhabitants of our country said to us, ‘Take provisions in your hand for the journey and go to meet them and say to them, “We are your servants. Come now, make a covenant with us.”’

¹⁷ And in every province and in every city, wherever the king's command and his edict reached, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and ^(A)a holiday. ^(B)And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, ^(C)for fear of the Jews had fallen on them.

⁸ They said to Joshua, ^(A)“We are your servants.” And Joshua said to them, “Who are you? And where do you come from?”

^3 (A)And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, ^(B)no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.^[a]

^9 (A)Acquire no gold or silver or copper for your belts, ¹⁰ no bag for your journey, or two tunics^[a] or sandals or a staff, for ^(B)the laborer deserves his food.

¹¹ “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for ^(A)within three days ^(B)you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’”

¹² Take double the money with you. Carry back with you the money ^(A)that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.
