⁸ When you have taken the city, set it on fire.^(A) Do what the Lord has commanded.^(B) See to it; you have my orders.”

²⁸ Absalom^(A) ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in high^(B) spirits from drinking wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I given you this order? Be strong and brave.^(C)”

¹⁶ Then they answered Joshua, “Whatever you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.^(A)

⁹ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;^(A) do not be discouraged,^(B) for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”^(C)

⁶ She sent for Barak son of Abinoam^(A) from Kedesh^(B) in Naphtali and said to him, “The Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: ‘Go, take with you ten thousand men of Naphtali^(C) and Zebulun^(D) and lead them up to Mount Tabor.^(E)

²⁸ So Joshua burned^(A) Ai^[a](B) and made it a permanent heap of ruins,^(C) a desolate place to this day.^(D)

²⁴ Then they burned the whole city^(A) and everything in it, but they put the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron^(B) into the treasury of the Lord’s house.^(C)
