The Covenant Renewed at Mount Ebal

³⁰ Then Joshua built on Mount Ebal^(A) an altar^(B) to the Lord, the God of Israel,

⁴ And when you have crossed the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal,^(A) as I command you today, and coat them with plaster. ⁵ Build there an altar^(B) to the Lord your God, an altar of stones. Do not use any iron tool^(C) on them. ⁶ Build the altar of the Lord your God with fieldstones and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God.

²⁴ “‘Make an altar^(A) of earth for me and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings^(B) and fellowship offerings, your sheep and goats and your cattle. Wherever I cause my name^(C) to be honored, I will come to you and bless^(D) you.

⁷ The Lord appeared to Abram^(A) and said, “To your offspring^[a] I will give this land.^(B)”^(C) So he built an altar there to the Lord,^(D) who had appeared to him.

⁸ From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel^(E) and pitched his tent,^(F) with Bethel on the west and Ai^(G) on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.^(H)

²⁰ Then Noah built an altar to the Lord^(A) and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean^(B) birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings^(C) on it.
