⁷ Joshua said, “Ah, Lord God! Why have you brought this people across the Jordan at all, to hand us over to the Amorites so as to destroy us? Would that we had been content to settle beyond the Jordan!^(A)

⁵ And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as children—

¹⁰ Then the king of Israel said, “Alas! The Lord has summoned these three kings to hand them over to Moab.”

¹⁷ And becoming aware of it, Jesus said to them, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened?^{(A) 18} Do you have eyes and fail to see? Do you have ears and fail to hear? And do you not remember?

²⁰ He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a^[a] mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”^[b](A)

¹⁷ Jesus answered, “You faithless and perverse generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.”

Jeremiah Complains to God

² “My servant Moses is dead. Now proceed to cross the Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the Israelites.^{(A) 3} Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, as I promised to Moses.^{(B) 4} From the wilderness and the Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, to the Great Sea in the west shall be your territory.^(C)

⁴ Why have you brought the assembly of the Lord into this wilderness for us and our livestock to die here?^{(A) 5} Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to bring us to this wretched place? It is no place for grain or figs or vines or pomegranates, and there is no water to drink.”
