²⁵ But Rahab the prostitute, with her family and all who belonged to her, Joshua spared. Her family^[a] has lived in Israel ever since. For she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.^(A)

³¹ By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient,^[a] because she had received the spies in peace.^(A)

²⁵ Likewise, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers^[a] and sent them out by another road?^(A)

⁵ and Salmon the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth, and Obed the father of Jesse,

²⁴ When the spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him, “Show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.” ²⁵ So he showed them the way into the city, and they put the city to the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.^(A)

⁶ She had, however, brought them up to the roof and hidden them with the stalks of flax that she had laid out on the roof.^(A)

¹⁹ There was not a town that made peace with the Israelites except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; all were taken in battle.^{(A) 20} For it was the Lord’s doing to harden their hearts so that they would come against Israel in battle, in order that they might be utterly destroyed and might receive no mercy but be exterminated, just as the Lord had commanded Moses.^(B)
