⁹ (Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant had stood, and they are there to this day.)^(A)

¹² Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Jeshanah^[a] and named it Ebenezer,^[b] for he said, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”^(A)

⁹ The poles were so long that the ends of the poles were seen from the holy place^[a] in front of the inner sanctuary, but they could not be seen from outside; they are there to this day.^(A)

³¹ Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came, saying, “Israel shall be your name”;^(A)

²⁵ From that day forward he made it a statute and an ordinance for Israel; it continues to the present day.

²⁶ So the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city and named it Luz; that is its name to this day.

²⁶ Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and he took a large stone and set it up there under the oak in the sanctuary of the Lord.

⁶ He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor, but no one knows his burial place to this day.
