¹³ And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord—the Lord of all the earth^(A)—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream^(B) will be cut off^(C) and stand up in a heap.^(D)”

¹⁵ Now the Jordan^(A) is at flood stage^(B) all during harvest.^(C) Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, ¹⁶ the water from upstream stopped flowing.^(D) It piled up in a heap^(E) a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan,^(F) while the water flowing down^(G) to the Sea of the Arabah^(H) (that is, the Dead Sea^(I)) was completely cut off.^(J) So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.^(K)

¹¹ See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth^(A) will go into the Jordan ahead of you.^(B)

¹⁹ Then the angel of God,^(A) who had been traveling in front of Israel’s army, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud^(B) also moved from in front and stood behind^(C) them, ²⁰ coming between the armies of Egypt and Israel. Throughout the night the cloud brought darkness^(D) to the one side and light to the other side; so neither went near the other all night long.

²¹ Then Moses stretched out his hand^(E) over the sea,^(F) and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind^(G) and turned it into dry land.^(H) The waters were divided,^{(I) 22} and the Israelites went through the sea^(J) on dry ground,^(K) with a wall^(L) of water on their right and on their left.
