²⁵ So Joshua ^(A)made^[a] a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance ^(B)in Shechem.

²⁵ So he cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree. ^(A)When he cast it into the waters, the waters were made sweet.

There He ^(B)made a statute and an ^[a]ordinance for them, and there ^(C)He tested them,

¹⁶ Then Jehoiada made a ^(A)covenant between himself, the people, and the king, that they should be the Lord’s people.

^17 (A)Then Jehoiada ^(B)made a covenant between the Lord, the king, and the people, that they should be the Lord’s people, and also ^(C)between the king and the people.

The Covenant That Was Sealed

^28 (A)Now the rest of the people—the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the Nethinim, ^(B)and all those who had separated themselves from the peoples of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, everyone who had knowledge and understanding— ²⁹ these joined with their brethren, their nobles, ^(C)and entered into a curse and an oath ^(D)to walk in God’s Law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the Lord our Lord, and His ordinances and His statutes:

^29 (B)Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. ³⁰ The king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem—the priests and the Levites, and all the people, great and small. And he ^(C)read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord. ³¹ Then the king ^(D)stood in ^(E)his place and made a ^(F)covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book. ³² And he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin take a stand. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

¹⁵ And all Judah rejoiced at the oath, for they had sworn with all their heart and ^(A)sought Him with all their soul; and He was found by them, and the Lord gave them ^(B)rest all around.
