⁸ and spoke to them, saying, “Return with much riches to your tents, with very much livestock, with silver, with gold, with bronze, with iron, and with very much clothing. ^(A)Divide the ^[a]spoil of your enemies with your brethren.”

²⁷ and ^(A)divide the plunder into two parts, between those who took part in the war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation.

Hezekiah’s Wealth and Honor^(A)

²⁷ Hezekiah had very great riches and honor. And he made himself treasuries for silver, for gold, for precious stones, for spices, for shields, and for all kinds of desirable items;

²⁴ For who will heed you in this matter? But ^(A)as his part is who goes down to the battle, so shall his part be who stays by the supplies; they shall share alike.”

¹⁷ then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’

¹⁸ “And you shall remember the Lord your God, ^(A)for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, ^(B)that He may ^[a]establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

⁹ a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. ^10 (A)When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land which He has given you.

¹¹ “Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, ^12 (B)lest—when you have eaten and are ^[a]full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; ¹³ and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are ^[b]multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; ^14 (C)when your heart ^[c]is lifted up, and you ^(D)forget the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

²⁶ esteeming ^(A)the ^[a]reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures ^[b]in Egypt; for he looked to the ^(B)reward.

^58 (A)Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing ^(B)that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
