²⁸ And we thought, ‘If this should be said to us or to our descendants in time to come, we should say, “Behold, the copy of the altar of the Lord, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifice, but to be ^(A)a witness between us and you.”’

⁵ They serve ^(A)a copy and ^(B)shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, ^(C)“See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain.”

¹⁰ “As for you, ^(A)son of man, ^(B)describe to the house of Israel the temple, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and they shall measure the plan. ¹¹ And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, ^(C)make known to them the design of the temple, its arrangement, ^(D)its exits and its entrances, that is, its whole design; and make known to them as well all its statutes and its whole design and all its laws, and write it down ^(E)in their sight, so that they may observe all its laws and all its statutes and carry them out.

⁴⁰ And ^(A)see that you make them after the pattern for them, which is being shown you on the mountain.

¹⁰ When King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet ^(A)Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, he saw the altar that was at Damascus. And King Ahaz sent to ^(B)Uriah the priest a model of the altar, and its pattern, exact in all its details.
