¹⁴ And the men said to her, “Our life for yours even to death! If you do not tell this business of ours, then when the Lord gives us the land ^(A)we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.”

⁷ “Blessed are ^(A)the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

²⁴ And the spies saw a man coming out of the city, and they said to him, “Please show us the way into the city, ^(A)and we will deal kindly with you.” ²⁵ And he showed them the way into the city. And they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.

⁴⁹ Now then, if you are going to ^(A)show steadfast love and faithfulness to my master, tell me; and if not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand or to the left.”

³⁹ And as the king passed, he cried to the king and said, “Your servant went out into the midst of the battle, and behold, a soldier turned and brought a man to me and said, ‘Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, ^(A)your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent^[a] of silver.’

David's Kindness to Mephibosheth

9 And David said, “Is there still anyone left of the house of Saul, that I may ^(A)show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?”

⁸ Therefore deal kindly with your servant, ^(A)for you have brought your servant into a covenant of the Lord with you. ^(B)But if there is guilt in me, kill me yourself, for why should you bring me to your father?”

²⁵ But Rahab the prostitute and her father's household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And ^(A)she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

¹⁷ And the city and all that is within it shall be ^(A)devoted to the Lord for destruction.^[a] Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live, because she ^(B)hid the messengers whom we sent.
