⁸ So the men arose and went, and Joshua charged those who went to write the description of the land, saying, “Go up and down in the land and write a description and return to me. And I will cast lots for you here before the Lord in Shiloh.”

¹⁹ So then let us ^(A)pursue what makes for peace and for ^(B)mutual upbuilding.

¹⁰ and Joshua ^(A)cast lots for them in Shiloh before the Lord. And there Joshua apportioned the land to the people of Israel, ^(B)to each his portion.

²⁴ And ^(A)they prayed and said, “You, Lord, ^(B)who know the hearts of all, show which one of these two you have chosen ²⁵ to take the place in ^(C)this ministry and ^(D)apostleship from which Judas turned aside to go to his own place.” ²⁶ And they cast lots for them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

⁴¹ Therefore Saul said, “O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this guilt is in me or in Jonathan my son, O Lord, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim.”^{[a] (A)}And Jonathan and Saul were taken, but the people escaped.

⁶ And you shall describe the land in seven divisions and bring the description here to me. ^(A)And I will cast lots for you here before the Lord our God.

Allotment of the Remaining Land

18 Then the whole congregation of the people of Israel assembled at ^(A)Shiloh and set up ^(B)the tent of meeting there. The land lay subdued before them.

The Allotment for Judah

15 The allotment for the tribe of the people of Judah according to their clans reached southward ^(A)to the boundary of Edom, to ^(B)the wilderness of Zin at the farthest south.

The Inheritance West of the Jordan

14 These are the inheritances that the people of Israel received in the land of Canaan, which ^(A)Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun and the heads of the fathers' houses of the tribes of the people of Israel gave them to inherit. ² Their inheritance was ^(B)by lot, just as the Lord had commanded by the hand of Moses for the nine and one-half tribes.

⁷ Now therefore ^(A)divide this land for an inheritance to the nine tribes and half the tribe of Manasseh.”
