²⁸ Zelah, Eleph, ^(A)Jebus (which is Jerusalem), Gibeath, and Kirjath: fourteen cities with their villages. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin according to their families.

¹⁴ They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in ^(A)Zelah, in the tomb of Kish his father. So they performed all that the king commanded. And after that ^(B)God heeded the prayer for the land.

⁸ And the border went up ^(A)by the Valley of the Son of Hinnom to the southern slope of the ^(B)Jebusite city (which is Jerusalem). The border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the Valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the Valley ^(C)of ^[a]Rephaim northward.

⁸ Now David said on that day, “Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites (the lame and the blind, who are hated by David’s soul), ^(A)he shall be chief and captain.” Therefore they say, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.”

¹⁵ Then Samuel arose and went up from Gilgal to Gibeah of ^[a]Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people present with him, ^(A)about six hundred men.

No Weapons for the Army

¹⁶ Saul, Jonathan his son, and the people present with them remained in ^[b]Gibeah of Benjamin. But the Philistines encamped in Michmash.

²⁶ And Saul also went home ^(A)to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, whose hearts God had touched.

⁴ So the Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered and said, “My concubine and ^(A)I went into Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin, to spend the night. ^5 (B)And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house at night because of me. They intended to kill me, ^(C)but instead they ravished my concubine so that she died.
