^12 (A)Their border on the north side began at the Jordan, and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north, and went up through the mountains westward; it ended at the Wilderness of Beth Aven.

16 The lot ^[a]fell to the children of Joseph from the Jordan, by Jericho, to the waters of Jericho on the east, to the ^(A)wilderness that goes up from Jericho through the mountains to ^[b]Bethel,

² Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and spy out the country.” So the men went up and spied out Ai.

The Destruction of Jericho

6 Now ^(A)Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in.

¹⁶ that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away ^[a]at Adam, the city that is beside ^(A)Zaretan. So the waters that went down ^(B)into the Sea of the Arabah, ^(C)the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

Rahab Hides the Spies^(A)

2 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men ^(B)from ^[a]Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.”

So they went, and ^(C)came to the house of a harlot named ^(D)Rahab, and ^[b]lodged there.
