⁷ Then it went down from Janohah to Ataroth and ^[a]Naarah, reached to Jericho, and came out at the Jordan.

²⁸ Now their ^(A)possessions and dwelling places were Bethel and its towns: to the east ^[a]Naaran, to the west Gezer and its towns, and Shechem and its towns, as far as ^[b]Ayyah and its towns;

²⁶ Then Joshua ^[a]charged them at that time, saying, ^(A)“Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates.”

The Destruction of Jericho

6 Now ^(A)Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in.

¹⁶ that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away ^[a]at Adam, the city that is beside ^(A)Zaretan. So the waters that went down ^(B)into the Sea of the Arabah, ^(C)the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.

⁴⁸ They departed from the mountains of Abarim and ^(A)camped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan, across from Jericho.
