War Between the Houses of David and Saul^(A)

⁸ Meanwhile, Abner^(B) son of Ner, the commander of Saul’s army, had taken Ish-Bosheth^(C) son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim.^(D)

³ The king of Israel had said to his officials, “Don’t you know that Ramoth Gilead^(A) belongs to us and yet we are doing nothing to retake it from the king of Aram?”

⁴ “Where is he?” the king asked.

Ziba answered, “He is at the house of Makir^(A) son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.”

⁵ So King David had him brought from Lo Debar, from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.

²⁹ Then the Spirit^(A) of the Lord came on Jephthah. He crossed Gilead and Manasseh, passed through Mizpah^(B) of Gilead, and from there he advanced against the Ammonites.^(C)

¹¹ So Jephthah went with the elders^(A) of Gilead, and the people made him head and commander over them. And he repeated^(B) all his words before the Lord in Mizpah.^(C)

¹⁷ When the Ammonites were called to arms and camped in Gilead, the Israelites assembled and camped at Mizpah.^(A)
