⁶ The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid of them, because by this time tomorrow I will hand^(A) all of them, slain, over to Israel. You are to hamstring^(B) their horses and burn their chariots.”^(C)

⁴ David captured a thousand of his chariots, seven thousand charioteers^[a] and twenty thousand foot soldiers. He hamstrung^(A) all but a hundred of the chariot horses.

⁸ The Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid^(A) of them; I have given them into your hand.^(B) Not one of them will be able to withstand you.”^(C)

⁹ They told the messengers who had come, “Say to the men of Jabesh Gilead, ‘By the time the sun is hot tomorrow, you will be rescued.’” When the messengers went and reported this to the men of Jabesh, they were elated.

²⁸ with Phinehas son of Eleazar,^(A) the son of Aaron, ministering before it.)^(B) They asked, “Shall we go up again to fight against the Benjamites, our fellow Israelites, or not?”

The Lord responded, “Go, for tomorrow I will give them into your hands.^(C)”

⁹ Joshua did to them as the Lord had directed: He hamstrung their horses and burned their chariots.
