²⁷ So it was at the time of the going down of the sun that Joshua commanded, and they ^(A)took them down from the trees, cast them into the cave where they had been hidden, and laid large stones against the cave’s mouth, which remain until this very day.

^29 (A)And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening. ^(B)And as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded that they should take his corpse down from the tree, cast it at the entrance of the gate of the city, and ^(C)raise over it a great heap of stones that remains to this day.

¹⁷ And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the woods, and ^(A)laid a very large heap of stones over him. Then all Israel ^(B)fled, everyone to his tent.

²⁶ Then they ^(A)raised over him a great heap of stones, still there to this day. So ^(B)the Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called ^(C)the Valley of ^[a]Achor to this day.

²² “If a man has committed a sin ^(A)deserving of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, ^23 (B)his body shall not remain overnight on the tree, but you shall surely bury him that day, so that ^(C)you do not defile the land which the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance; for ^(D)he who is hanged is accursed of God.

⁹ Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.
