God’s Commission to Joshua

1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ ^(A)assistant, saying:

⁹ Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the ^(A)spirit of wisdom, for ^(B)Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

^23 (A)Then He inaugurated Joshua the son of Nun, and said, ^(B)“Be strong and of good courage; for you shall bring the children of Israel into the land of which I swore to them, and I will be with you.”

³ The Lord your God ^(A)Himself crosses over before you; He will destroy these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess them. ^(B)Joshua himself crosses over before you, just ^(C)as the Lord has said.

^38 (A)Joshua the son of Nun, ^(B)who stands before you, he shall go in there. ^(C)Encourage him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

¹³ So Moses arose with ^(A)his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

^45 (A)which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, ^(B)whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the ^(C)days of David,

²⁵ Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you go, Gehazi?”

And he said, “Your servant did not go anywhere.”

²⁶ Then he said to him, “Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it ^(A)time to receive money and to receive clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female servants? ²⁷ Therefore the leprosy of Naaman ^(B)shall cling to you and your descendants forever.” And he went out from his presence ^(C)leprous, as white as snow.

^5 (A)So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.
