⁶ To the roots of the mountains^(A) I sank down;
    the earth beneath barred me in forever.
But you, Lord my God,
    brought my life up from the pit.^(B)

¹⁷ Surely it was for my benefit^(A)
    that I suffered such anguish.^(B)
In your love you kept me
    from the pit^(C) of destruction;
you have put all my sins^(D)
    behind your back.^(E)

¹⁰ because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,^(A)
    nor will you let your faithful^[a] one^(B) see decay.^(C)

“‘You are my son;
    today I have become your father.’^[a](B)

“‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.’^[b](C)

“‘You will not let your holy one see decay.’^[c](D)

¹⁰     the mountains saw you and writhed.^(A)
Torrents of water swept by;
    the deep roared^(B)
    and lifted its waves^(C) on high.

⁶ He stood, and shook the earth;
    he looked, and made the nations tremble.
The ancient mountains crumbled^(A)
    and the age-old hills^(B) collapsed^(C)—
    but he marches on forever.^(D)

¹² Who has measured the waters^(A) in the hollow of his hand,^(B)
    or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?^(C)
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
    or weighed the mountains on the scales
    and the hills in a balance?^(D)

²⁵ before the mountains were settled in place,^(A)
    before the hills, I was given birth,^(B)
26 before he made the world or its fields
    or any of the dust of the earth.^(C)
27 I was there when he set the heavens in place,^(D)
    when he marked out the horizon^(E) on the face of the deep,
²⁸ when he established the clouds above^(F)
    and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,^(G)
29 when he gave the sea its boundary^(H)
    so the waters would not overstep his command,^(I)
and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.^(J)
