Jonah 1:10-17

10 Then the men were even more afraid and said to him, “What is this you’ve done?” The men knew he was fleeing from the Lord’s presence,(A) because he had told them. 11 So they said to him, “What should we do to you to calm this sea that’s against us?” For the sea was getting worse and worse.
12 He answered them, “Pick me up and throw me into the sea[a] so it may quiet down for you, for I know that I’m to blame(B) for this violent storm that is against you.” 13 Nevertheless, the men rowed hard to get back to dry land, but they couldn’t because the sea was raging against them more and more.
14 So they called out to the Lord:(C) “Please, Yahweh, don’t let us perish because of this man’s life, and don’t charge us with innocent blood! For You, Yahweh, have done just as You pleased.”(D) 15 Then they picked up Jonah and threw him into the sea, and the sea stopped its raging.(E) 16 The men feared the Lord(F) even more, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows.(G)
17 [b]Now the Lord had appointed a huge fish(H) to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in[c] the fish three days and three nights.(I)

10 Then the men were greatly afraid,[a] and they said to him, “What is this you have done?” because they[b] knew that he was fleeing from the presence of[c] Yahweh (because he had told them). 11 So they said to him, “What shall we do to you so that the sea may quiet down for us?” because the sea was growing more and more tempestuous.[d] 12 And he said to them, “Pick me up and hurl me into the sea so that the sea may quiet down for you, because I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you all.” 13 But the men rowed hard to bring the ship[e] back to the dry land, and they could not do so because the sea was growing more and more tempestuous[f] against them. 14 So they cried out to Yahweh, and they said, “O Yahweh! Please do not let us perish because of this man’s life, and do not make us guilty of innocent blood,[g] because you, O Yahweh, did what you wanted.” 15 And they picked Jonah up and hurled him into the sea, and the sea ceased from its raging. 16 So the men feared Yahweh greatly,[h] and they offered a sacrifice to Yahweh and made[i] vows.
Jonah Is Swallowed by a Fish and Prays to Yahweh
17 [j] And Yahweh provided a large fish to swallow up Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
