⁵ Then the mariners were afraid, and ^(A)each cried out to his god. And ^(B)they hurled the cargo that was in the ship into the sea to lighten it for them. But Jonah had gone down into the inner part of the ship and had lain down and was fast asleep.

²⁶ And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it and called upon the name of Baal from morning until noon, saying, “O Baal, answer us!” But there was no voice, and no one answered. And they limped around the altar that they had made.

¹⁸ Since we were violently storm-tossed, they began the next day ^(A)to jettison the cargo. ¹⁹ And on the third day they threw the ship's tackle overboard with their own hands.

⁴⁵ Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Sleep and take your rest later on.^[a] See, ^(A)the hour is at hand, and ^(B)the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

⁴³ And again he came and found them sleeping, for ^(A)their eyes were heavy.

⁴⁰ And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? ^41 (A)Watch and ^(B)pray that you ^(C)may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

⁵ As the bridegroom ^(A)was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept.
