Jonah’s Disobedience

1 Now the word of the Lord came to ^(A)Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

³² The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for ^(A)they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.

Seeking a Sign^(A)

^29 (B)And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, “This is an evil generation. It seeks a ^(C)sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah ^[a]the prophet. ³⁰ For as ^(D)Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation.

²⁵ He ^(A)restored the ^[a]territory of Israel ^(B)from the entrance of Hamath to ^(C)the^[b] Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the Lord God of Israel, which He had spoken through His servant ^(D)Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet who was from ^(E)Gath Hepher.

^4 (A)A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of ^[a]the prophet Jonah.” And He left them and departed.

³⁹ But He answered and said to them, “An evil and ^(A)adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. ^40 (B)For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. ^41 (C)The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and ^(D)condemn it, ^(E)because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.
